FORTE Tour Performance S Golf Ball Review

By: Golfshake Editor | Tue 14 Mar 2017

2017 is looking like the year of the three, four, five and even six piece ball! Maybe more to the point is that all these balls feature a Urethane cover and that puts them in the premium/performance bracket. We are seeing a whole host of ball manufacturers enter the market as well as some big players making some big noises about their offerings.

FORTE are a manufacturer based in Australia that have been gathering a loyal following and have developed a range of golf balls following 2 years of tracking a range of golfers games. While their main distribution is mainly in Australia, they have big plans to take the product worldwide, so we were excited to get our hands on some of their 3 and 6 peice balls and headed to the course to test them out:

FORTE

What FORTE say:

  • P.R.B. High-Energy Core: The low compression core that provides super-soft feel and lower spin rate of the tee.
  • Ultra-Soft HPF Resin: A extremely then layer of resin that perfectly blends the core with its cast urethane cover.
  • Cast Urethane Cover: Along with an exclusive patented polyurethane formula that provides excellent spin control around the green along with incredible soft feel.

Phil Eadsforth (12 Handicap)

Softer of the two forte balls tested and felt more like a standard ‘proV’ type. Played this on a soft golf course and witnessed loads more spin than normal with my wedge game. Had a couple spin 10 feet or more off the front of greens!. Great ball though that felt soft but solid and I’d happily use these balls for the year. A good all round ball for players how want more spin

Score 8/10

Owen Davies ( +2 Handicap)

As with all the new premium balls to enter the market, this is certainly consistent and does really pack a punch when it comes to performance. It feels softer both off the driver and around the greens when compared to it's 6 piece counterpart, but I certainly did not see a significant loss in distance. It is probably a bit too soft feeling for me as i like a slightly firmer feel, but none the less a great ball and at that price it will turn a few heads!

Score 8/10

Matt Holbrook (11 Handicap)

The Tour S offered me a great soft feel around the green and from 100 yards in. My game really benefited from this. The higher spin ratio offered great control. A higher handicap player may struggle for accuracy off the tee and therefore sacrifice distance but if your able to find the centre of the clubface on a regular basis and repeat that swing then you will definitely get the most from this balla inparticular around the greens.

Matt's score - 9/10

Andrew Picken (18 Handicap)

I slightly preferred the S2 and S3 and found them to be slightly longer than the softer cousin. The sound at impact was slightly different and I really liked the noise on impact when putting. It sounds and feels crisp off the putter face. This coincided with a dramatic improvement in my putting stats.

The company web site offers a questionnaire to help golfers decide on the best composition for their game and swing speed and it is a useful facility to review if you are considering trying a different ball. I found that the cheaper harder versions actually suited my current golf game.

I would definitely recommend readers to check out this product as they offer good value and playability.

Andrew's score - 8.5/10
