Tributes Paid to European Tour Legend John Jacobs

By: Golfshake Editor | Fri 13 Jan 2017

Tributes have been paid to European Tour legend John Jacobs, who has sadly passed away at the age of 91. Having played in the 1955 Ryder Cup, the Englishman was twice a captain of the side, most notably in 1979 when Continental Europe joined Great Britain & Ireland. Renowned for his role within the PGA and coaching abilities, he was instrumental in the establishment of the tour, serving as the tournament director general from 1971 to 1975, and later deservedly inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.

He will be remembered for those achievements, but also his warmth as kindness. Those within the game have long spoken of his appealing nature and gentleman's manner. He was a visionary and vital ingredient in shaping the professional scene that we now take for granted in this part of the world.
