Macdonald Hotels Upgrades Golf Courses with £550,000 Investment

By: Golfshake Editor | Tue 04 Oct 2016

Following a significant investment of £550,000, golfers who are staying at a Macdonald Hotels & Resorts venue, are set to benefit from those subsequent course upgrades at five of its UK layouts, which have been intended to improve playing conditions and the overall experience for customers.

Highlighting the group’s on-going commitment to ensuring the courses remain in prime condition throughout the year, a number of enhancements, including bunker renovation, greens project works and pathway redevelopment, will be completed by the end of 2016, while each venue also has a new fleet of course maintenance vehicles.

Golf course upgrades have been made at Macdonald Linden Hall Golf & Country Club, Northumberland, Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel, Golf & Spa, Shropshire, Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf & Spa, Cheshire, Macdonald Cardrona Hotel, Golf & Spa, Peebles and Macdonald Aviemore Resort, Highlands, home of Spey Valley Golf Course, which hosts the annual SSE Scottish Hydro Challenge on the European Challenge Tour.

Keith Pickard, Group Director of Golf and Health & Fitness at Macdonald Hotels & Resorts, said: "We want every golfer to experience course conditions and service like they were playing in a professional event.

“We are confident our course upgrades will help us showcase all of the Macdonald Hotels & Resorts courses in their best condition for the 2016/2017 season and beyond, ensuring they are must-play courses for visiting golfers.”

The latest investment in the five venues follows the £1 million development of the new clubhouse at Macdonald Aviemore Resort in 2013 and the £10 million renovations in its hotels throughout 2015 as part of the group’s commitment to providing luxury accommodation to all visitors. The renovations included refurbished bedrooms, restaurants and leisure facilities with further investment planned in the future.

Keith Pickard added, “The ongoing development of Macdonald Hotels & Resorts demonstrates that we continue to meet the exacting standards of today’s golfer and positions all of our golf courses as leading venues within the market.”
