Jordan Spieth's Daily Activity at the Open Tracked by UA's Smart Golf Shoe

By: Golfshake Editor | Fri 22 Jul 2016

During the 2016 Open Championship at Royal Troon, Under Armour’s Golf and Connected teams partnered with two-time major winner Jordan Spieth to track his sleep, fitness and daily activity as he prepared for his quest to secure the Claret Jug that had agonisingly eluded him 12 months before.

The former world number one wasn’t able to put on the wearable device (UA Band) during the tournament, so Under Armour solved that problem by creating the first-ever, custom smart golf shoe, which he wore during the game’s oldest championship in Ayrshire. These shoes are built from the same foundation as the UA Drive One, which was officially launched in April.

Data was collected via an embedded motion sensor within the shoe’s midsole, which automatically tracked metrics such as distance and steps. Over the week, it was discovered that Spieth averaged 13,500 steps a day, which totalled approximately 54,000 during the competitive rounds between Thursday and Sunday.

For more information on how this information impacts Jordan Spieth's preparations for tournaments, and how the data can be used, click here.
