By: Golfshake Editor | Tue 05 Jul 2016

The winner of this year's 145th Open Championship at Royal Troon will receive £1,175,000.

The R&A have announced that the total prize money will be £6,500,000, an increase of £200,000 from last year’s Championship.

Martin Slumbers, Chief Executive of The R&A, said, “The Open is one of the world’s great sporting events and it is important that this is reflected in the prize fund. We want to continue to attract the world’s best golfers to compete in the Championship each year and to enhance its global appeal.”
