A Mitsubishi Evo has less badges , cuts and scallopes and general stuff on it than those things ! I'm surprised at Ping |

Not too sure about the Woods myself Paul. They are a step back from the Raptures, more in the G5 mould. Don't seem to have as many options as the G5 Range either. Particularly in the Fairway Woods just offering the 14 degree loft in the 3 Wood rather then two options. The Irons look good though a decent halfway set at last between the Game Improvement Clubs and the Blades. The I10s have less offset then the previous I5s and still have the forgiveness of the Cavity Back design. I notice they are using the Toe-weighting from the Rapture in this range to give them more stability on Off-Centre Hits. Could be tempted to adopt the 7, 8 and 9 Iron into my existing set when they come out. |

the G10 line up is going to be big for Ping in 2008. they got a lot of PGA players hititng the clubs this year and so far they are selling well in the states. the rapture line is solid and i like the driver and hybrids -- but the price is a leap over the G10 line and not much of a leap in performance. |

Must admit in the few months since these clubs came to the limelight my opinion has changed slightly. I think the Fairway Woods are excellent tools and the 4 Wood is an incredibly useful and well round club. The shallow faces and sleek profile make hitting them off the deck and clean/bare lies very simple. They may not now make great substitutes for a driver or driving club and I've seen a few people sky them when trying to tee off with them but I feel they are designed to do a different job now. You want to tee off - use the the driver its not a difficult club to hit really, with the right lofts and shafts you'll hit it fine. That being said I'm not taken on the G10 Driver still. Okay the heads larger and the face is bigger to make the hitting area more easy to find and make it forgiving. However I don't see a reason why Ping have taken a backward step to produce an all titanium driver when the Rapture still on paper and on test out performs it. If anything with the rule changes by the games governing bodies Ping should have taken the Rapture Driver and enlarged and refinded that some more. I have to say I love the look of the I10 Irons. Those are most definitely a good looking club and a good inbetween club between a blade and a game improvement iron. I look at the I10s and would love to have a set. However the sensible part of my brain tells me that right now that wouldn't be a good idea as I'm not good enough to hit those clubs consistantly. Maybe in another 6 months after some lessons and hopefully a chance to start playing again with some regularity I'll have a set made up. |
