...to keep warm out on the course?

The benefits of links golf is the course is rarely closed, drains well and almost never sees temporary tees and greens. The negative is the north wind howls down from the arctic circle and hits the northeast coast with a vengence, turning your bits into icicles!

The, relatively, new introduction of base layers has made a big difference to keeping warm but that still leaves fingers and toes feeling a bit exposed. For me its those 'tea bag' type handwarmers and an extra pair of socks. A wooly hat and a hipflask make up the essentials.

So what do you do to stave of the effects of winter?

BAse layer, t shirt, jumper and a hat and you're good as new.  Waterproofs trousers on top of your trousers or under armour leggings.  Dont play when it's pouring down though, that's just crazy.  It's amazing the amount of great days golf you can get over the next three months.

The coldness problem some of you suffer from is due to walking round the course for 3-4 hours and not playing enough shots.

Base layers, t-shirts & a jumper in the bag, wooly hat & zippo hand warmer which is great for keeping the hands nice & warm.

Nothing more than normal, unless it is less than 2 deg C. Then I will put on my lightweight fleece.

When driving to the course on a cold day, I put my shoes in the passenger footwell with the heater blowing down so that they are hot by the time I get there. Saves getting cold toes when waiting around on the 1st.

I also have some of them oversized gloves to wear between shots on the first few holes until the blood gets pumping and I've woken up properly.

Dubia and hawai, sounds great but ill stick to a base layer, polo and some footjoy pro dry extreme socks. £6 a pair and worth every penny.

Why not move down to the "warmer" climes of the South Coast. Shorts and polo shirts are the order of the day. (I wish it was)

Being from oop North I do the buttons up on my polo shirt.  If it gets too far below zero I might put a light jumper on...

That's true Chris, I was being ironic.  Actually I  use under Armor AllSeasonGear® which is made from radical fabrics that flex with changing weather conditions to deliver superior temperature regulation and maximum breathability.  Apparently
