Golf course recommendation around M11

I am planning on playing golf on 28 April with my Dad who lives in Cambridgeshire, I live in Gravesend, Kent.

Can anyone recommend a course worth playing that wouldn't be too far off the M11.  Looking for somewhere that is about half way up / down.  Anywhere that takes Green Free or 2-fore-1 vouchers would be a bonus.

Also, I have looked at the website for The Shire, the Seve designed course.  Anyone played this recently?  Is it worth a go?

Hi Richard

I live just outside Cambridge myself and have played a number of courses between here and M25/M11 area.

You can obviously have a look on here for reviews ect but here is a list of courses you can look at.

North Weald, Great Hadham, Cannons Brook, Ash Valley, Blakes, Hobbs Cross, Stapleford Abbotts.

Hope this helps.

The Shire is a lovely course, as is the Abbotts course at Stapleford Abbotts

Thanks for the suggestions.  I have played the Abbotts, as well as the Priors at Stapleford Abbotts, and enjoy them both.

I'll have a trawl through the websites and see what catches my eye.

I think I will have to make a visit to The Shire at some point as it sounds like an interesting course.  I like the sound of the six par 3's, six par 4's and six par 5's.  Not sure about the opening shot to a par 3 surrounded by water though!

Try Bishop's Stortford, I was a member there for years and the course is great, though I don't think they'll take the 2 for 1 vouchers, also it is aout 2 minutes from the motorway.

I'd suggest not going to North Weald or Great Hadham though, both need quite alot of work to be rated with the others!

Colin

I used to live in Bishops Stortford but never played there due to cost and the fact that they do not allow visitors on a weekend.

Great Hadham is currently having work done around the back 9 now but will still provide a tough test.

Nothing wrong with North Weald. Cheap after 11am. Play there quite often lately, in excellent condition considering where it has been in the past.
