Hi Ste and welcome,

FIR - Fairway in Regulation - Basically, Did you hit the fairway off the tee?

GIR - Green in regulation, did you hit the green in the number of shots alocated.

i.e Par 3 - 1 shot. Par 4 - 2 shots. Par 5 - 3 shots.

Hope this explains all.

If you hit the green in two on a par 5 it still counts as a GIR.

Sand save= up and down from a greenside bunker.

Not forgetting that 'up and down' means getting into the hole in 2 shots or less. i.e. knocking your bunker shot straight in, or getting it on the green from the bunker and knocking it in with 1 putt.

'Up and Down' can also refer to missing a GIR but still getting a par. I think it's known as 'scrambling' in some quarters.

Correct me if I'm wrong tho!
