If you were to take a holiday anywhere in the world to play golf, wether it be on the links of Ireland or Californian Coastline, where would you go and why?

I love South Carolina but I'm settling for a serious alternative next week North Devon at Saunton Sands.

South Carolina(http://www.cyberlinksgolf.com/King's%20North.html) for outstaning quality off the courses I have had the pleasure of playing and the service you receive, something this country should follow and have only experienced at the 2010 course at Celtic Manor.

Saunton (http://www.sauntongolf.co.uk/index.php)(east course) is just stunningly natural and captulates everything about golf for me , I's  a coures if I had to  play just that one for the rest of my life I wouldn't complain.

Dave,

Would you PM me the details about Saunton?

It's driveable for me from home (near Exeter) and as I'm on leave from work next week...

But, and it's a big but :-0   I'm am absolute novice player, never played a full 18 hole course (usually play 9's) and whilst my handicap says 28 I suspect it does so because that's only how far the scale goes.  So on that basis I may not be a suitable candidate!

 Cheers

Paddy

No disrespect, Patrick, but Saunton is not a course for a relative beginner. There would be too many lost balls and the members are very quick players as we found out to our cost last year having to let a couple of fourballs through.

Hi John,

No disrepect taken at all, makes perfect sense to me.

Saunton is a great spot on the North Devon coast, I have spent many happy evenings and weekends there surfing so I'm sure you'll have a grand time!

Cheers

Paddy

And to answer the oringinal question...

Although I'm a complete golf novice, it would probably be a US venue simply for the experience.. although my 'home' club of Woodbury Park in East Devon is hard to beat for me.. seeing the deer grazing at the side of the road as you drive in with the mists just clearing early on a Sunday morning..looking out over the rolling green hills of Devon.. marvellous.

I would have to agree Patric its a wonderful course but very challenging and the wind always blows there making finding the fairways paramount. I don't believe you would enjoy Saunton at your present level, don't want to sound patronising but its a very tough trek for a rookie, Me and John spend alot of time encouraging and teaching beginners this might scare you away from the game buddy me and i will PM you next time we play Woodbury or Exeter.

Ok just seen your at Woodbury  so look forward to my invite , cheers Patric

Hi Dave,

As mentioned, makes perfect sense to me :-)

Not actually a member at Woodbury yet, it's a bit early days for that. My current goals are getting round the 9 hole course there consistently under 50 and from that building up the bottle to take a run at he 18 hole Oaks course :-)

By all means do drop me a PM if you planning anything suitable in these parts :-)

 Cheers

Paddy
