Just watching the US PGA and its something I have noticed before but not really put any thought into.

When players bring out note pads from there pockets.............what are they using it for?

It surely cant be a course guide  - on the 4th day (plus practice rounds) you must know your way around by now!!

Its not the score card................so what is it....................

It's probably their own guide from the practice round, i often do it when i visit new courses to remind myself for next time i play there. I wrote down the hazards around the holes, the yardage, what clubs i should use, what's the green is like etc

Four days of competition = Four different Pin locations. In order to score well on Greens that run at +11 or more you need to be in the right position. The guys are just checking where the Pin is and where they want to be.

The Notepad is the Players Tournament Issue Yardage Book. Its a more in depth and detailed course planner. Created by Mark Long the man behind all the Players and Caddies Yardage Info.
