How often do you clean your golf equipment? Mine gets done when I have time to spare, I tend to clean as I play but know I should clean the clubs more to keep them in tip top condition.

When it's dirty, that's when i start considering whether to clean it or not. |

Immediately I return from play. It always comes first, bar possibly an urgent toilet call or feeding the cat. 'Finishing off' cleaning (after scrubbing out face grooves etc.) is usually undertaken with 'Mr. Muscle,' and before a Longdrive tournament both heads and shafts are sprayed with light furniture polish which of course is then wiped and polished. I do not wash grips as often as I should, but they have to be done before every tournament, and daily throughout such. Before I discovered Iomic grips then, in very humid overseas conditions, grips would be regularly dusted with rosin powder, sometimes several times a day. Equipment that sparkles, and grips which work, considerably helps to give me confidence and also feel sharp. |

Wow, that's commitment Ivan! I always clean my clubs before tournaments but not everytime i play. I use hot water with fairy liquid, put it in the water and scrub it out with a brush. Ta-da! All clean! |

Funnily enough, I have just been doing exactly that. Tend to do it more often in the winter when theres a lot more mud around. |

The vast majority (I stress not all) of used drivers sent to me to work on range from being dirty to disgusting. But I always return them immaculate, even though it's not really part of the job. I always present my car to my mechanic immaculate (including engine bay) when work needs to be carried out. I see it as being nothing more than basic courtesy. Likewise if I have a business meeting I dress nicely even though nowadays many clients sit across the desc with cap on back to front, chewing gum, taking one or more cell 'phone calls during an important discussion, whilst playing with their curling denim breast pocket flaps or even picking their nose. Pride, self-discipline, and presentment are old fashioned concepts, but are nevertheless important to me. But, we are all different. Some slobs achieve far more than I ever will. Indeed, England loves and promotes slobs. Sorry to digress. I'm old.

i have always cleaned my clubs immediatly after a round when wet and always within 24 hrs after playing. my best tip is an old tooth brush and use some of that anti-bacterial hand washes you can buy as they rid your clubs of fertalisers and feeders that clubs use. happy golfing. steve hopkins 15.3 hcp |

I would avoid fairly liquid like the plague. It contains salt which brings a shine to your dishes and rust to your irons!! Turtle Wax Zip Wax does the job a trear. Bucket of wax and a bucket of water to rinse off. Magic. |

Really David? Never knew that, best stop doing that. I got turtle wax zip in the garage so will be using that later on today. How important is it to clean your clubs? I understand it's to keep it in good condition but performance-wise, how much difference is there? I have played with both clean and dirty clubs and the only difference i've seen is the amount of spin. What about you guys? |

Jamie, Would you play with a dirty woman? Would you want to perform with one? Obviously no woman can compare to a fine set of irons. It's not all about spin. It's what turns you on, a fresh club smelling of turtle wax or a handful of grime.
