It seems as if there are more organisers of the Yorkshire Qualifier than those interested in playing in it. (see http://www.golfshake.com/forums/view/7094/GSOpenYorkshireEventthoughts_feedback. I thought the idea was to get a midweek event? |

Hi Darren, It seems that you may have misunderstood the tone and intention of my previous post. The post was intended merely to highlight the general apathy that had surrounded the Yorkshire Qualifier right from day one. As you may recall, the initial qualifier had about 10-12 confirmed players. It was cancelled due to lack of numbers and due to the fact that it clashed with the World Cup final. However, the first tee time was at 10am and the final started at about 7.30/8pm. Most people, if they had really wanted to, could have played golf and watched the final. It was really a lame excuse.to cancel. In my opinion, the problem was down to the location of the event, not the timing. Yorkshire is a large county and to try to hold the event so far south was totally wrong. Any players coming from say, North Allerton were facing a very long round trip. Following it's cancellation, nothing was done to try to try to rearrange the event, so I posted on here to gauge the feeling of opinion. I was also conscious of 'stepping on the toes' of the previous organiser. It was suggested that I go ahead and organise the evnt anyway. I if anyone was interested and had about three replies. It was then, after discussion with Darren R, that it was probably best to open up the CGL Willow Valley event due to the guaranteed numbers. Again, I posted to ask if anyone would like to enter an alternative, midweek, event. Once again there was very little response. I feel that once the CGL event was 'opened up' as the Yorkshire Qualifier, any other event would have been untenable - afterall how many events can one area have? So you can imagine my surprise (and others), when I saw your post regarding the Yorkshire Qualifier. My post was not meant to cause any personal offence, and I hope that this post goes some way to explaining it's intention. Hope to see you on the course soon. Cheers Steve |

good morning all it is clear that there has been a lot of confusion about the Yorkshire qualifier and a few have tried to get one organised. I don't see this as an excuse to have a fallout over. I personally would have preferred a mid-week qualifier myself due to other commitments over the weekends and i thought that was what was being looked into a a possibility of being arranged. But is does not matter a jot whether it was or was not, some thing else got sorted, if it was unsuitable to myself then ok,i could accept that, i personally would have preferred a flat course due to my present fitness levels andstill recovering from inury and hopefully closer to me so less travelling. As it turned out i was unable to play in my 2nd comp. on saturday due to having to sign on players for my sons u12's football team before the deadline and this prevented me from getting to the course. As it happens i did get a round in early evening and another round in yesterday but it appears that could be it for a while as my left knee injury has returned so R'n'R is forced on me again. Looks like i'll be out for at least 2 weeks. So i would not be available to play in any organised comp. now. All that has gone wrong with this event is that no one has been officially assigned the job of organisingthe late event with specific details. How does the saying go 'to many chiefs and not enough indians'. lol |
