Now you're talking Mr Ley!  Sounds a great idea but I don't recall anyone mentioning it before (could be tricky to organise?)

There was talk previously of this in a slightly different format ie; county league round robins then county champs to play others.

Agree Tim organising and getting to these events could be tricky and only for the staunchest & hardy players.

Yep did the rounds and kind of got scrapped due to logistics in organising.

As Wayne says idea was initially a regional/county league or potential knockout similar to the CGL but logistically was potentially set to fail due to travelling and getting everyone to play.

It did also get discussed about some how doing within a day ie a 36 holer. So the regional final would be 4 matches over 36 holes ie play a team over 9 the winner plays the next 9 against another team, then holes 19-27 against another team and then finally the 2 semi finalists play holes 28- 36.  But would that be a true test of 9 hole matches ?  Think we tried it at the Abbey if I recall and Mr Perry plus partner walked away champions ?

Obviously a crap system then nah was a bit of fun.

I was thinking more on the lines of picking your partner and when all the teams are in and registered have a draw, Then play at a neutral venue somewhere in the middle of the two teams which would have to be played by a set date in a knockout format. Better if the pairs live close to each other share travel costs may start out as a small number ,but then look what happened to the  NvS. Thoughts?

There are only a few solid supporters of events Dave as you know, and some of those won't travel miles just for a game.

I personally think more could be done in regards to more events between GS members.....Even if a sort of "mini-League" was set up regionally (maybe even more Locally based)Say pick 5 courses in a certain area, stableford format and each player that enters the league would have to complete a round (with another GS member) on each course with a certain time period.Total points wins. This way massive amounts of organising wouldn’t be needed....and it would up to each player to play his/her round, at his/her convenience and if they don’t within the certain time period then more fool them!Would it work??

I think the pairs team format would work there are quite a few of us on here that already travel long distances just for social games so I'm pretty sure a competitive league would take off. I can see it now Me&Kev  JP&Daz  Tim & Darren  Homer & Floody santo&Mark  Marshall &Marshall  Deano & Hollingsworth  Cac hand & cac Hand   Millichip & Millichip (perhaps not)  I could go on ,and i'm sure there are quite a few others that would show and interest especially the popularity of matchplay.

Dave - we have 20 players for Cleobury on 1 October, event already set up and deposit paid, if you want to make it a pairs better ball day, that would be fine with me as long as all other participants are happy with the format.

I'm up for a betterball comp at Cleobury, I've got a partner who shot 4 over gross on one of the nines just recently!

Guys, we've had some discussions in the office and some draft rules/format on the way over via PM.  Let us know your thoughts.

Obviously difficulties will be around getting teams to commit and exactly how many teams will participate.
