Hello,

I'm looking to join a new golf club, but am looking to avoid this entry fee buisness, which in my opionion is a scam.  No need to hark on about the present climate, every1 is feeling the pinch, or are they?  Example, the nearest golf club to me asks for £1000 joining fee.  Guess thier doing alright then.

Be great to see others opinions.

Thx.

my course offered no joining fee for the first 500 members, then it's £1000 + vat, southport courses are around £2,500 joing fee and then £1000 a year, i suppose they want to keep up the image of a course, it's like a place that suddenly offers 2-4-1 meals, it may suddenly get a different type of customer to what they would like

To be fair Alan a lot of the costs to joining a club are how good is the  course and in what condition.

For example having walked around Birkdale on Weds 28th I can assure you the greens were like glass and the fairways beautiful, the Head Greenkeeper will not be on £20,000 a year!!!!!!! producing a course like that.

So no being a member there will not be cheap.

When I played Hillside, Lyth, I thought they were the best 18 greens I had ever come across.

hillside is by far the best course around....at least i've never heard any one who's played at least 2 of the southport courses say anything other, adults need to know 6 people as references...i only know 2 people who have played it so 6 members is beyond me
