I am not one for changing putters, I seem to keep them for a few years before I move onto something else.

Matt,

You need to first of all establish your putt stroke:

Inside to straight?

Straight?

Inside to Inside?

And purchase one of the many putters with a head made for that particular type of stroke.

There are lots of internet articles and teaching MPEGs on the subject. The best MPEGs are possibly by Tom Wishon, but also check out Ralph Maltby. Both are 'Gods.'

Putters come two inches too long for most golfers of average height who are properly fitted, so do not be afraid to shorten!  Once the putter is the correct length then check loft and lie.

I've reduced my putter shaft to 29" and it's perfect now

Try a putting lesson instead. I had one last week and it was probably the most worthwhile 30 mins I have spent on golf in a long time.

I've been using the same putter since I was twelve. (Which in fact means it's really the only putter I've ever used)

My dad took me to the Pitch n' Putt and I hit 3 pars out of the 9. When we were handing the hire clubs back, my dad quipped "My boy just hit three pars out there", and the guy behind the counter said I could keep the putter.

It's a real no-namer putter and all the paint is scraped off it, but it works for me. Also I like the way some of my opponents scoff when they see it, while they show off their £200 Scotty Camerons.

Then at the end of the round they ask me where I got it!

For me putting is natural. I try not to think about: inside-straight, swing paths etc etc etc.

All I see is a bat, a ball and a hole. Use the bat to hit the ball into the hole. The only technique stuff I worry about with putting is doing it the smae way each time.

I just practiced a consistant way of batting the ball into the hole.
