After hitting the ball well for the past few weeks I have finally got back to winning ways. 7 under at Stoneham. Didn't hit a driver the entire round and still hit 17 greens in reg, so in answer to previous posts accuracy far outweighs distance in my opinion. That and a strong mental game.

Congratulations!!!!!

With scoring like that Steve is the man to listen to and take notice of.

But, to put matters into perspective Steve, how far were you hitting with whatever you were using instead of a driver?

I suspect that you outhit most amateur golfers' (driver) drives with your one iron?

I was using 3 wood mostly which I pitch about 245yds and then get some roll, quite a lot this time of year.

I think amateurs that are looking to gain more distance need to work on technique rather than brute force. I always swing at 75% of my maximum in order to retain some control. I am physically not as strong as you long drive guys and only pitch my driver 270yds, but that is ample for me to reach most par 5's in 2.

You need to work on retaining the wrist angle for as long as possible which will deliver the club later into the ball for max speed, combine this with a nice tension free tempo and you will send it out there long enough.

Thanks for the additional info. Steve.

We revel in your success, but one or two of us are disappointed by the lack of  comprehensive celebration party invitations.

Nevertheless it will be a pleasure to hopefully one day watch you play.  You are this forum's hero.

P.S. We are not all strong brutes in Longdrive. Leastways not us Europeans.

12th August at the Buckinghamshire GC, The Trilby Tour Pro Final. The more support the better, there will be a few tour pros there also. All in all a great day out.

I am just waiting on my regular man to get back to me otherwise I will give you a shout.

Finished 3rd at Basingstoke on the wend with -2, timing was off all day but I clung on and birdied the last two holes.

Just playing local stuff this year Ray, in the past I have played some Challenge Tour and Europro Tour. Difficult to find sponsors at the moment hence the instructional website. If I can get enough people to join I will fund myself and hopefully get onto the European Tour - i'm definitely good enough.

Good luck with it Steve. I'll certainly be rooting for you. Your website is fantastic and your lesson on swing plane in relation to ball flights has been invaluable to me.

I watch the Europro tour on Sky. The standard is very high.

I have to say the pro game is quite confusing to me. All the different levels and tiers. Glad to say im starting to get a handle on it now!

Nice one Steve, always nice to know what it'd be like if we could play proper golf like you.  Carry on at this rate and you could probably scrape into the South team for the N v S next year!

Not playing Europro this year Gary.

Hope to kick some Northern butt in NvS next year, couldn't bring myself to play for the north this year...lol

For all who want to attend the Trilby event on the 12th August admission is free, it would be good to meet some of you.

Caddy has been arranged thanks Darren, the old boy might need help for the back 9 though bless...lol.

Not sure on tee times at the mo, i'll probably be middayish. I will be around all day on the 11th for the amateur final as well if you want to pick my brains. Hopefully doing a bit of commentary for Sky TV.
