Derek, you will do yourself a favour by not expecting to learn this game from what you read on this website.

As a new player your first priority is to find a professional you can relate to and learn the basics before you even venture onto a golf course.

Take my word for it that this approach will stand you in good stead and save a lot of heartache.

I wonder what the most common question asked on golf forums is? Could it be

"Can you fix my slice? What is causing it?"

Still we have yet to solve that riddle. You would think that we would know the answer by now. 

Derek,  John is simply being brutally honest, not unfriendly. This is in fact the friendliest golf forum on the web. 

Bar poltergeists (on which we have a panel of experts) just don't ask us to fix the unseen! Or better expressed, take the answers to such questions with a pinch of salt.
