The Increasing Burden of Equipment!

I can't seem to log in today so this post appears under my former GolfShake account:

Has anyone else become conscious of their equipment becoming increasingly heavy?

I regularly see golfers in the club car park unloading bags full of clubs; switching long irons for fairway woods, sticking in three or more wedges and wondering what to remove in order to make space; and then of course out comes the inevitable battery operated trolley.

Years ago sticking a heavy bag on a trolley was a blessing, and for many golfers obviated the need to pay for a caddie. But nowadays bags appear to have become so very heavy that pulling them is not only an uncomfortable  burden but arguably makes for slow rounds of golf.

I have to put up my hand and plead 'Guilty.' Except to the battery operated trolley part. I do not own one.

I have personally found golf to be far more enjoyable carrying a pencil bag containing just a handful of clubs, and my scoring appears to be none the worse.

I can't help but wonder if the golfers of say a hundred years ago adopted a much better golfing formula than has evolved today.

Any views?

I always carry my bag and go for the lightest bag that will take all 14 clubs. I dont find a pull trolley any easier really and cant affford a motorised one.

I found the move to steel shafts in my irons when i got some proper clubs really made a difference but a carry bag is much easier getting round the course for me.

i have never had a trolley..that was until my back statrted acting up. now unless it's a game on my local par 3 cousre i can't carry for 18 holes unless i know it won't rain and i've already eaten and don't need to carry a drink and won't lose any one of the 3 balls i take with me and know i won't go in a bunker so my sand wedge can also stay behind and if i know i'm going to chip everthing stone dead so the putter can do like-wise.

I quite often only go out with a half set of clubs, in a small carry bag, odds one time and evens the next time, I can shoot similar scores with odds, evens or full set, just goes to show that you don't need all the clubs the marketing guru's tell you, you need.

It's also a great exercise for adding or decreasing a little power just like the tour guys do. But of course they can do it to a much finer degree.
