Hi Guys,

On Friday I'm having another lesson, I asked my pro the other week about replacing my drivers and he menioned trying a few during our special time together

The last time I bought a driver it was on "its cheap and i NEEEEEED one" little did  know how wrong I was... Its been retired for a couple of months and I've been taking nothing but a 4 Iron from the long tees. But Friday is going to be a turning point.

Is there anything I should push him to show me/deal with/avoid like the plague???

Thanks for your help

Just make sure it's within your budget and is TOTALLY suitable to you

Thanks wayne, but TOTALLY??? remember I'm a newbie knob, should I be looking for feel over ball flight? length over straightness (or slight fade/draw) or a gentle compromise between them all?

Or do I trust the bloke who put me together and when he says "thats the one, give it a few rounds etc"

This is going to be the biggest money spent on a single club, how will I know (or will I just know???)

Sorry, Matt, but you are not yet at the stage when you will know what is best for you.

Spend the money by all means if that is your wish, but sensibility dictates that you  should find something cheaper on ebay.

If your swing is sound then you would be able to hit any driver straight. Once you can do this, then the other factors come into play to enable you to get something that is just an extension of your arm.

At the stage you're at in your golfing career Matt, I suggest that there are only two things you need to worry about; "Do I like it?" and "Can I afford it?"

For all the other things (grip size, shaft flex, loft, etc) let the pro advise you.  Take his advice and you will be fine.

John is probaly right, no point getting something custom fit to a swing you are going to change.

The pro can give you pointers on a suitable shaft flex and loft then look around for something cheap but better suited than your previous driver look at last years stock or second hand you will save a packet, then once you have grooved your swing and are consistant then cough up for a custom fit if that is what you want.

Thanks for all the advice guys. JP I know you will be happy

Well I've had my lesson and come away with......

Nothing shiney other than a much improved swing!!! We had a go with a few different ones and he wants me continue with The bag filler driver and woods that I have, perfecting my swing before he makes me part with my cash!

Cant say fairer than that

I've been told to play the driver and woods from the tee, get the basics nailed and go see him again. and he reffered to himself as my coach today. Ah bless... I got a lump in my throat and everything. lol

Well done, Matt, I am pleased that you have found a coach local to you to help you progress. Will look forward to seeing the improvement when you next decide to visit me.

Ive just had some practice down the range this morning and I've never hit so many of the same shot! Its all a bit exciting!!! Fingers crossed!
