if i hit my drive straight out into a field 250 yards without it hiting the fairway do i take a shot again of the tee or 250 yards down the fairway ?   pluss if i hit it 250 yards but it lands on the fairway then goes in the field where do i take my next shot from of the tee or were the ball entered the field

in short you have to play from the tee again on both instances and the only time this differs is if you go into a water hazard in which case you can play it from anywhere back along the line it went in on.

If it is a casual game and agreed by all parties we have in the past said look for your ball where it went in the woods or rough. If you dont find it then drop out where it went in and you will be playing your 4th shot next. But still always best to pray  a provisional ball as this is technically cheating!

Farmers field usually OOB. 3 off the tee.

Dave CAC handed Geordie.

Hi there gary, you play from where you played your last shot if you hit out of bounds, and if it were off the tee you can use a tee again.

But, if you hit into a water hazard you play any of the options avaliable in the rules, you cannot play it from anywhere back along the line it went in on as david states.  Relief can be otained if you require, so you don't ever misunderstand again, any reference to playing along the line refers to a direct line from the pin to where the ball crossed the hazard.  best thing you could do is accesss the rules online.

just so you know, even if you hit the ball into a water hazard one of your options for relief is always replay your last shot.  But it is rare that you would gain any advantage by taking the option.
