Lots of posts previously on casting etc but any help appreciated on me stopping casting. Guess my lack of hip action would help with this and if I managed to turn my hips through to the target line before impact this would help ? add any comments to the post or video below. Hi Darren, You just need to firm up the left side into impact, notice how the clubhead overtakes your hands through impact causing you left arm to buckle (not good). At impact the back of the left wrist needs to be ahead of the ball so in affect you are de-lofting the clubface, just make sure that you keep the clubface square when you do this, and don't do it by getting your upper body over the ball too much or you'll start shanking. hi there darren follow the advice of someone you trust and if i were you i would not make too many changes to your swing just fine tune it a little bit so that it compliments your own coordination of your limbs. what i did notice on your back swing was that you don't turn your hips very far, compared to a good shoulder turn. Do you play a natural fade as your feet looked to be setup as possibly open stance. this would prohibit a good full hip turn as would taking a slightly wider stance than needed. i do not know which club you were swinging so i'm not sure whether narrowing your stance would help. also your right elbow looked as though you were not keeping it away from your body enough as you went upto the top of your back swing and you just appeared to give me the impression that you were inclined to allow your right elbow to bend inside 90 degrees and this would make you come down steeper into your ball and reduce your clubhead speed, i thought your ball could have been a little close to you as i thought you look a little tucked up at impact and did not release through and forward with your club head. On your final follow through you appeared to pivot more on your heel and not the outside of your front foot which meant you could have been unbalanced. just little adjustments on ball position will possibly improve a few of the above as your swing path will change and if so you stop getting tucked up for room at impact you will have even a smoother swing and tempo. it should help your follow through to your final position. so i would start with moving your balls about to get comfy if you know what i mean. But my observations are only that and nothing else so don't shoot the messenger.

Colin, was a 7 iron, stance maybe to wide. I'm a usual slicer/puller of the ball with out to in swing path. John's tweaks in the past have helped with a nice draw, just can't remember what he told more/didn't practice |

Colin, a full shoulder turn is wasted if one turns the hips as well, because the hips should be restrained so that there is a feelable resistance when at the top of the swing. It is this that produces the power. |

yes i agree resistance is required, it is all down to the individuals own body mechanics and how far their hips and shoulders rotate, and it is always fair to assume the shoulders turn much further and faster than the hips, and you usually need a good hip turn to maximise a smooth full shoulder turn to provide muscle resistence that is constant throughout the lower and upper body. this then maximises the power you can put into your clubhead through impact. But again it is down to your own body limitations as to how far your body rotates. I try to get a good consistent recoil of all my muscles on the backswing and then just release it and drive through. i don't try to over rotate backwards after my hips stop rotating on the backswing as this risks causing muscle injury especially as my lower back has limitations as to what stress it will tolerate. it is very important individuals know their limitations and play within themselves, i have given up trying to hit it as hard as possible and try to play well within myself with smooth even tempo and with a little luck good timing. the more you know about your own body mechanics the better your game should be. Darren if John is your past guru that put you right last time, he's probably your man again as he understands your swing capabilities. What some golfers do is alter far too much all at the same time and get confused. again take little adjustments. |
