Can anyone recommend a decent travel bag. I'm going to be transporting my clubs for the first time (subject to volcanic ash) so need to invest.

I'm probably going to use it at least a couple of times a year so don't mind paying a bit extra for a quality one.

Thanks in advance...

Golf bag, no. But I do a lot of travelling myself and swear by this make for travel 'bags'

That's the one I have at the minute which will take my lappy, itouch, 4 gang elect socket, pair of trainers, 3 days sock & pants, large file / folder sleeve pair of jeans and loads more. Infact you can fill it with that much stuff you really do struggle to pick it up, a must have for any regular traveller. Saves me loads of time avoiding lugage while plane hopping

I would recommend getting a hard plastic case, especially if you plan to use it often and will be flying.  The baggage handlers see the word "Fragile" as a challenge and golf clubs tend to fall into that category.  Gone are the days where you could just put your rain cover over the top to stop the clubs falling out and expect your clubs to be treated with some respect.

When you are picking one out, make sure that your bag will fit into it before you buy!  This may seem like a weird thing to say, but most bags won't take a staff bag and some of the slimmer ones will take a carry bag but not a cart bag.

I got mine a few years ago and is a hard plastic one that breaks down into three pieces, with the top two pieces stored in the bottom piece so taking up little room.  Not sure where you would get one of these from now though.

Another trick I was taught if using a soft bag is to cable tie 4 clubs together very tightly at the top and bottom of bunch, this then makes them almost imposible to bend

I have a Club Glove and make use of it. I pad my Clubs with the clothes I need for the week. That way I don't bother taking a suitcase and paying for luggage. A rucksack or duffle bag for carry on containing undies and socks is all I require then. Obviously you might need to borrow an iron at your destination, unless you don't mind wearing creased clothing.
