Just heard this story on the radio so had a bit of a look, the leader has been jailed for 4 years! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/8549176.stm

Now, I haven't got a problem with locking these people up, they are defrauding people whatever they are trying to sell under false pretences and I can't tolerate that sort of anti-social behaviour.  What I do have a bit of a problem with in this specific case is that the prosecution was bought by Havering Council Trading Standards, who are now proposing to sue the gang to appropriate their money to pay for the case.  E Bay are making the right noises about how bad it was and they are doing all they can to stop it (yeah, right) etc:.  But what about the multi-million dollar club makers?  Are they going to chip in court costs for 'saving' them so much money, cash that is paid by us taxpayers*, will they bravely now try to bankrupt the Chinese manufacturers for supplying fake goods, will they relentlessly pursue other counterfeiters?

Don't hold your breath.

*  If I paid any tax that is

Have any Golfshake members inadvertently purchased counterfeit golf goods?

If so, from whom? What did you do?

Last year I re-shafted / re-sleeved numerous TaylorMade R9s and came across around five counterfeit heads / shafts.

In every case my customer simply shrugged his shoulders and said "nothing can be done," or words to that effect. Against my advice,  one customer even paid me far more than the counterfeit was worth to convert a dry sleeved driver into a conventional driver.

In a society where one regularly hears the words 'consumers' rights'  I found it all quite surprising.

Being in the trade I see several golfers coming in with Dodgy Golf Equipment. I used to have sympathy for them but now I just laugh at them. They think Pro Shops are charging the earth for equipment so get on the internet and buy the latest Taylormade, Ping, Callaway or Nike Club at a fraction of the price of the real mccoy. They think they are getting one over the pro shop because they got the club so cheap. At no point do they ever stop and think why is it so cheap?

Golf Equipment is something I'll never scrimp a penny on. I won't look for the cheapest deal. I'll always buy it from a reputable outlet where there is an actual person who can go back to should you ever have a problem.
