| Under 90! |
Richard Lane-blackwellHandicap : 24.8 Posted : Thu 25th Feb 2010 16:44 |
| I finally managed to shoot under 90 - getting 88 today at Southern Valley. That beat my personal best by 4 shots. Handicap has dropped by two and I'll be back out tomorrow trying to get it lower. Here's going for sub 80! |

Well done Richard. Having read your Profile page, you have done all the right things in preparing to take up this frustrating game. Now then. Sub 80...If you have the natural flair and talent for the game, and practice your short game you will achieve that figure before the summer. Good luck, keep us posted |

That puts me bang in trouble then!! Well done Richard, I'm still trying to beat my best of 95 with two 97's in my last two rounds, and not managing to card below a 6 on the 17th and 18th both times. I'm playing tomorrow so we'll see how it goes then |

Matt it's a pity your not living closer to me as just one round with me on your bag I guarantee you'd be close to breaking 80 THAN 90 ![]() |

Congratulations Richard. Having had the pleasure of playing golf with you I'm a bit surprised that you haven't broken 90 before! You'll find that now you've broken 90 you'll start to do it on a regular basis. Russ |

Matt. The MOST important part of lowering your handicap is to practice the short game. People tend to spend ages trying to be able to blast the ball off the tee, and think that's all they need to do. Practice and practice and your handicap will come down. Putting is very important too, cause if you average 36 putts or more you have no chance of lowering your scores |

| Putting is what causes me most problems. In that round of 88 I had 41 putts! And that was lower than usual - normally putting around 44-46 times a round. I feel like my putts are getting better, getting closer to where I'm actually aiming but I miss a lot that I really should be sinking. Still, practice makes perfect. |

| Richard. To have scored 88 with 41 putts, is very good going indeed. Get that putting down to 36 and you will easily break 80 |

Richard, from what you have just written you seriously need to work on your putting. Just imagine what your scores would be if you managed to go around a golf course with two putts per hole. Once you get to that standard then you start getting some one putts in! We'll have a chat about putting the next time we play. Russ |
