Good afternoon,

I am just getting into golf seriously and was wondering if any advanced golfers could help me with some information about the skycaddie's. Please could you advise me about which one is the easiest to use and where the best place to get one from is. I have been looking into them on the internet but am quite confused about the different prices. Thanks in advance from a budding golfer, I hope!!

Hello Emma,

I'm a big fan of the Skycaddie GPS devices and have been a Skycaddie account holder for 3 years now at my club. Out of the models available the most common one we've sold over the last 2 years is the SG2.5 this model has the same functionality as the SG5, just in a smaller package and with a black & white screen. It has the same rechargable battery and uses the same GPS receiver so its pretty accurate. I'd tell you to avoid an SG3 or an SG4, they are quite bulky devices and are a bit annoying to connect to your computer to download courses, because of a fiddly screw in connector. Also the GPS receiver in them are a bit tempremental and you'll have to reset them every so often as they lose track of the satellites.

SG2.5 devices you should be able to pick up around the £199 mark. Some big Golf Outlets might do it a touch cheaper as they can get a bit of discount from Skycaddie ordering in Bulk.

Depending on how technically savvy you are, I could also suggest you wait a month or two and look as the Skycaddie SGX coming out. Got some new features on it and features a touch screen Ipod/Iphone type interface. Also seems to resemble the modern slim mobile phones and MP3 players.

Emma, you will do your game more good, by not having one of these contraptions. Learn to use all the other elements available to you to make your decisions on what club to use for a particular shot.

The sg2.5 is as good as the sg5 aslong as you know that grass is green and waters blue you get exactly the same readings off both handsets. You should be able to pick up a 2.5 for £179.00 and a 5 for £279 then you have your subscription on top of that. One of the greatest advantages to an amatuer golfer is accurate yardages have more chance of getting it close knowing exactly how far you gota hit it.

Maybe getting a sky caddie will help Emma measure her yardages per club :-)

Anyway if u want GPS get anyone but NOT a Sureshot as they are rubbish in reliability and after sales support !!

Only if there's money on it :-)

No the sureshot works but i am on my third one in 3 years now as the GPS chips all pack up and stop working when the rest of the unit is fine !! so it becomes an expensive golf scoring device
