Ok everyone, we are off again! I try to play every other week so keep coming back here to check for updates.
So here are the entrants (Names in italics have a ball with their name on it - if your not in italics then you're lost - or not on a ball but are still in the competition - If you're name is crossed out then you are out of the running.)
I'm gonna stick the results here to save lots of scrolling down!
Played at my usual muni course today. A very dissapointing round of 100, but Ben S survived the round (there was a slight scare on the 15th when Andy K had to pop out and make a cameo provisional apperance - but Ben S managed to find hiw way back out of the trees) 469 shots with 8 balls left........ A record breaking 87 today - my lowest ever score! Ben S is playing a blinder - and still with me! 556 shots with still 8 balls left........... A somewhat disappointing 102 this morning (the first half in the snow!) but a remarkable round for balls! Ben S (looking grubby after so many shots) looked lost in the brook on the 5th, so Chris W came out as a provisional. Sliced him way left and into the woods! Lost, after just one shot! So, Richard L-B came out and sailed over onto the fairway. Amazingly, Ben S just wouldn't go away, and was found just shy of the water. But, 2 holes later Ben S's ball gave up the ghost and split! (Rule 3.5 was invoked "Any ball that becomes damaged will be deemed as lost"). Richard L-B was then picked again and looked liked he'd found the drink on the final hole. Paul W came out as a provisional (lovely drive) but again, Richard L-B had just made into onto the bank! So, 658 shots with 6 balls left.................. A very respectable 91 this morning in the sunshine although lost Richard L-B through rule 7.4 (amendement 9a). For those a little rusty on the rules and regulations, that's the one that covers the losing of balls in bets (it's in Ian's bag - with the chance of it getting back in mine!!). 749 shots with just 5 balls left......... Well, another newsworthy round! Firstly, in an extremely generous (and controversial) gesture, my partner Ian gave me back Richard L-B before a ball was hit! Richard L-B (looking grubby and marked) stayed with me, scoring a birdie on the 13th (6 inches away from my first ever hole in one!), before giving up the ghost on the next hole, after twice finding the bushes. So Andy K was out the bag and played very well indeed. Scored 90 (and that was with a 10 on my card!). So... 839 shots with still 5 balls left! A disappointing 99 on Monday - couldn't drive at all! But Andy K didn't stray from sight and is still in hand! 938 shots with still 5 balls left! A reasonably pleasant 94 this morning - and Andy K threatens to beat Richard L-B's record for endurance! He's getting a bit grubby, and may last until he falls to bits! 1032 shots with 5 balls left.............. (I'm having trouble with selecting strikethrough on the forums so I'm going to remove players names if they are out of the running (unless they still have a ball)). A very wonderful 87 today (equalling my lowest ever score). I almost kept a 7 off my card (for the first time) but fell at the last! Andy K stayed with me, although David H came out as a provisional on the last, but I found Andy K in the leaves. 1119 shots with still 5 balls left....... (I can't seem to edit the post below so I'm adding the player status to the bottom of the page!) Another good round today - 91 - but Andy K bought it at the 5th hole when I discovered he was damaged! So, David H was bought out the bag, staying with me tthough the round. 1210 shots with only 4 balls left..............
A 102 shots around a different course (Bransford - very wet for those that don't know!) and lost David H in the pond on the 8th. Paul W came out the bag and kept dry till the end of the round! 1312 shots with 3 balls left

Back from the Dartmouth Open (weather and course superb!) and here's what happened: 1st day Chris S was the first ball out the bag - lasted only until the 7th (in the lake!), so Darren M was next. Unfortunately he left me on the 10th (sliced into the heavy heavy rough), and out came Lewis G-B. Lewis carried me through to the end of the round! 104 shots - 10 balls left 2nd Day Lewis found the hedge on the 1st(!) so Tim H came into play. Sliced Tim H way left on the 8th and it was Wayne S's turn. Found Tim H on the 9th fairway (so he's back in the bag!), but lost Wayne on the 10th again! Ben S carried through to the end of the round. 110 shots. 214 shots - 8 balls left Oh, played a quick 9 holes in the afternoon! 48 shots and Ben S still with me! 262 shots - 8 balls left Day 3 and Ben S is staying where I can find him - played the whole round without a lost ball. 107 (and the Dartmouth Open title!) 369 shots - 8 balls left

| You need to start losing some balls if I'm to have a chance of winning.....is there snow around your way???? If there is you need to get out and have a round |

Good to see I'm still hanging in there - At least not a golden duck jsut yet. Andy yes - 658 shots and 6 balls left is far too good if my 1066 stands a chance so get out there before the weather improves. |

Dave, what you playing at! 1 shot, I lasted 1 shot! I nearly won this last year - furious. Where's the course, hole and general position of the ball? I'm off to look.

Got to say I'm a bit dumbstruck as to HOW you can get a ball back?????? if it's gone it's gone..........otherwise in a couple of years we could look at you still playing off a high handicap but hitting 23,245 shots before all the balls have gone!!!! Can you clarify this Dave |
![]() Dave KnattHandicap : 20.1 Reply : Wed 10th Mar 2010 17:55 |
Rule 4a (amendment 7) Any ball lost that is then found before the last ball is lost will be deemed not lost but found and in play.
Rule 9 Any ball that is lost as part of a bet will be deemed lost Rule 16 Any ball that has become lost as per Rule 9 will be deemed as found if won back in a wager or returned in any other way.
A set of rules can be found at reception (or I can pm them to you at a cost price of £34.99) Just to add - a extraordinary committee meeting was held to clarify what exactly happens when a lost ball is offered back into the bag. They voted 9-2 in favour of Rule 16! My hands are tied!
Oh, and what do you mean "playing off a high handicap in a couple of years"??? Your comments have been duly noted and sent to the chairman! |

Newsflash! A hastily convened press conference was held this morning where the Dave's Balls Ruling Committee were called to account for their mishandling of what has become known on forums across the internet as "The Santo Scandal" The Committee were hounded by the press for their heavy handed approach in dealing with the much loved inaugural winner of the Dave's Balls competition. When questioned about their approach to the "Lost Ball Question Incident", the committee refused to concede that they were to blame, citing a number of rulings and regulations that appeared to absolve them from blame. Having said that, this year's competition has been tarnished by the controversy, they admitted and lessons had been learned. But they refused to upturn the judgement, again citing rule 54(section iv). A spokesman for Mr. Santorini said that his client had been informed but was unable to comment further. |

Paul Hudson was reportedly "very happy" this afternoon according to news reports after the latest instalment of Dave's Balls 2010. With still 5 balls left, the predicted final total (supplied by Sportsbet.com) is between 1300 and 1400, a total that would easily eclipse the world record and hand the title to Mr. Hudson. The apparent lack of lost balls this year has worried the tournament organisers, with comments in the press that this year's tournament is "boring", "unimaginative", and "weak". There have even been accusations made that the organisers have attempted to "sex up" proceedings with the "Santo Scandal", and other fabricated news stories. A source said yesterday, "We are extremely happy with this year's event, and can't wait for Dave's next game this Thursday! Keep watching the forums for news!"
