The Oaks offers an 18 hole par 73, 7,314 yards set in stunning parkland with rolling fairways, European standard greens, lakes and mature trees. Offers a wonderful challenge to those with a handicap, particularly the 18th which offers a spectacular finish over the lake in full view of the clubhouse! With it's tree lined fairways, well guarded greens and spectacular views towards Dartmoor, it is easy to see why this course was selected to host it's first PGA seniors tour in 2003. The Acorns is a 9 hole par 32, 4,582 yards. A beautifully contoured 9 hole course for those looking for a less demanding but no less interesting challenge than the Oaks. With its tricky green side bunkers, big rolling greens and testing second hole, this course offers any golfer a great round while taking in the breathtaking views of the Exe valley.

Or maybe another venue?

And, when?  Early spring. Maybe before the N v S

Wayne,

JP mentioned Saunton and Royal North Devon perhaps around August time, I'd be up for a game anywhere off the M5.

I want Saunton, too...But to have to wait till August is too long.

That's why I suggested Woodbury, in the Spring..You know, fairly soon.

Or any darn course. I just wanna play golf. Anywhere..Any time..Like  NOW

Played all of those mentioned, Must be getting on for ten years ago. Saunton East is by far and away the best in my opinion. The entrance to Woodbury just inside the doos will blow you mind.

This all sound great guys....wish I could par-take and join you. It's just soooo far away from me.

I can see this becoming one of the things that will annoy me about being a member of a club rather than a nomad - I got my wife to agree to next years subs  (bearing in mind we are due our first child in a couple of weeks AND she wants a bigger house!) and I can't see her letting me go off on too many trips at hundreds of pounds a pop. I hope that the N'v'S is not the only time I meet up with some you this year

Lewis,

Its not that bad mate, I'm a club member and still get the odd round dawn souwthhh & were expecting our 5th child in April. Most the rounds the lads organise  are usually around the £20 mark and with fuel another £20. Sometimes car shares are and option with lads from the north and midlands joining up on the way, so we all help each other as best we can.

Trust me its a great day out with banter of the highest degree and some great golf although not on my part

I'd probably be up for that too, just getting a bit congested game wise about then.  Probably go for a B & B as well so two games might be good.

Paul, I'm sure it is a great day(s) out. For me the SW of England is a 600mile round trip....about £75 in fuel....that again in beer.....and again for a hotel and breakfast.....oh and the cost of the golf.

Don't get me wrong though. I will get to as many as possible because the I like craic and competition of a group of like-minded people

need to get good at golf first

You just need to turn up Lewis the banter and friendship will pull you along

Tim, B&B sounds a good idea considering the distance so will look at that too

Wayne, Trevose is a lot further, but an excellent choice. It also has the benefit of excellent accommodation at the club, with many different options.

Also the opportunity to play just across the river from Padstow, the great links of St. Enedoc.

For me its probably around the 300mile mark, so can see your point. But you don't need to stay over, The only time most of us have ever stopped over as been the NvS, So your only talking around the £120 mark really, And if you were to pick someone up off the M5 J2 on your way down you'd save another £30 in fuel

The way I look at is, These opportunities to play wonderful courses with some great players and excellent banter are few and far between perhaps 3 a year, So if one really wants to experience this the obstacles become few and far between.

I hear you Paul...I hear ya !

For this particular outing I would have to stay over as 600 miles and a fair few hours on the course and in the clubhouse is a long day.

That being said, I will certainly be on the look out for other events!
