What a coincidence, at this very moment I'm thinking about paying the £15 a month to get the Sky Sports package through Virgin Media.

Really annoyed about the cost as the only thing I really want to watch is the golf, not really bothered about the football games, etc, just the golf.

The problem with the above link is that is doesn't have Sky Sports 4 on it.  This is the channel showing the European and US golf at the moment!

Really crafty of Sky to switch the golf over all four channels so that you cannot just pay for one channel, you have to take the complete sports package!

As part of my wife agreeing to 'support' my golf hobby, I had to get rid of Sky Sports off our package saving a tenner a month.....but that meant I couldn't watch any golf.....now I can and it's working well

good find

Lewis,

You should of explained to your better half that you "need" to keep the sky sports as viewing the golf helps you to groove your swing and pick up all the tips you need Mine fell for it

At least your saving a tenner a month, for now!

Well we worked out that me giving up the rugby (at least £60 a month....beer and subs) and the skysports fee, that this will nearly cover my yearly club membership.

The learning part is covered by the lessons I'm having (10 booked so far) so she won't fall for the 'I need sky sports' route. She is far far more intelligent than I !

I forgot to add though that I had to take over the families laundry duties if I wished to watch the golf as and when

Just remember, if we all subscribe to these web sites, the big players (SKY, Virgin) will not have the funds to sponsor a lot of these events which would start a downward spiral.   I hate paying circa £80 month for full access to everything that is on the box, phone, internet but if we don't support it then what could happen.

On the flip side it may revert to the days of all quality sport being free to air. Would that be a good thing as prize money would reduce significantly?  It wouldn't affect me as I don't plan on winning a major in the next decade but what about our home grown talent!

 Just a thought.

If all I wanted was sky sports I would first have to subscribe to the entertainment pack for £18 most of which is free on freeview.. then I would have to pay £18 for the sports pack... so that would be £36 just to watch golf as that would be all I really wanted.

If sky made it cheaper to get just the channels you wanted instead of charging us for free channels, maybe we wouldnt go looking for free websites.

Adrian, I agree with you totally, they have a monopoly and they are exploiting the market. Hence my point that paying £80 per month stings a bit. There needs to be a balance but as sportsmen and women are being paid silly amounts of money to do what they love (in the majority), all of this would fall apart if the funding was removed.

I'm not preaching because if its available on the net then its fair game and I have watched events online when the wife is watching something less interesting on the box!

The problem is not Sky's lads, it's all the idiots and I stress IDIOTS!!!!!!!that paid for the Bruno v Tyson fight they decided to charge for years ago to gauge interest and now they know they can charge for anything.

My arguement is if you have sky sports then you should see everything they cover for the monthly price and not have premium (chargable) viewings

Hence I don't have sky

Yep agree, firstly you can't buy one channel because they move golf around all 4 making you buy the full package and then to top it all off through in the Premium events!

I did buy the Mayweather vs Hatton fight so am guilty of Wayne's comment above

Wayne, have to agree with your statement.

When I was working at the pit all the lads who had sky kept going on about watching the Tyson v Bruno fight.

I didn't have sky at the time, but I told them that they would be stupid to pay extra to watch it.  Simply told them to get up the next morning and watch the free repeat!

Everyone of them was told be me that if Sky got enough people to pay then they would start charging for everything.

If nobody paid for the boxing then Sky would have a major rethink on pay per view.

Problem was, everybody paid for the boxing.  Sky made a mint, and now we all pay for anything that is 'extra'

Not necessarily so, remember premier plus where you had to pay to watch football, thats long gone and as long as people aren't tempted to pay for boxing, it should follow suit.

Hi Adrian, sorry to be so late in replying but I've been v busy this last week sorting out the Algarve hol and what with this bad weather disruption I haven't had a minute.

Yes I'm still at Moorallerto tho' haven't been able to play for last month there.

CGL were planning a game at Willow Valley, maybe Monday week (apparently only £10 on Mondays) so if you're interested... I'll pm you if and when I get more details.
