Does anybody else find it really hard to be consistant at the range because of the mats its only really with my irons, Im thinking maybe its because im used to taking some ground and obviously cant do this on the mat.

Is it just me?

The mats are a really great help in producing a consistent strike, as perfct contact has to be made to get the ball to fly correctly.

As you are not able to do this at present, Ben, this should tell you that your swing is not repeating itself on a more consistent basis as yet.

My thoughts are that you are just not getting down to the ball consistently. Try and hit the ball INTO the mat, this will then produce a ball first and mat second swing which should be an excellent contact.

I expect you are trying to hit the ball forward as opposed to down and forward.

Quite right John, as you will agree many high handicappers are trying to hit the ball up!!!! when in fact they should be trying to get the club into the back of the ball on a downward strike and thereby letting the loft of the club do the work by getting it up and out.
