Handicap cut

Hi,

In the last two weeks I have played the same course and got the same score, 93.  I have played off the same tees with the same SSS.  Last week I was cut 0.8 but this week I was cut 1.2.  Can anyone explain why I have been cut by different figures when I have got the same scores.

Cheers.

Evening Richard, you handicap is based on the stableford points scoring system, not how many shots you take in total to go round the course in.

So your last two rounds are below. From that, the second game you used a lot of shots up on the 9th hole, but scored on a lot of other holes. So the first time round you got 40 points and the second time round you got 41 points. for each point above 37, your handicap will be cut by 0.3 shots. So you scored more points the second time round, hence a bigger cut. I would not worry, as you have scored 40 points or more for the last three rounds, so it will be coming down a lot more if you carry on at that rate!

Thanks very much Allan.  I'm starting to see a little bit of consistency in my game recently.  I think the practice is paying off as I have been playing every week for the last couple of months.  Hopefully I can keep it up and start to get better.  Back out on the course tomorrow so will see how it goes.  Thanks for the help.

Thats ok, sometimes its bit confusing.

Well done for beating the Reds today, must be like scoring 46 points on the course!

As for the handicaps, remember you get 0.3 taken away, but you only get 0.1 added if you have a poor round. so for one good round that gets you a 0.3 cut, you need 3 bad rounds to get the 0.3 back again. Mind you, later on when your handicap comes down, the cut goes to 0.2, then when you are less than 5, its 0.1. The reaosn being, is that the lower the handicap the more consistant you should be on the course.
