Grip Correctly - How Important Is It..

How important do you consider the grip to be in relation to other components that make up the golf swing...?

For me, it is absolutely critical that I grip correctly. it seems that my correct grip gives correct wrists giving correct arms giving correct take away giving correct back swing giving correct through swing giving correct finish giving good shot..

So, what do you think. Is the grip equally important to other components of your swing or more important or less important.

It's the only bit that connects with the club Robbie.  For me, that makes it one of the most important things.  It's also one of the first things you're taught by a pro when you take up the sport.

Have to agree with Chris, when I went for my lessons at the start of the year. The grip was the 1st thing that the pro changed on me, and it almost single handedly cured my slice.

It is one of the BASICS, if your hands are not in the correct position it is impossible to get parts of the swing into the correct position.

As my Pro said to me on Sunday when he made a slight change to my grip, if you are millimetres out here, you'll be yards out down there (Pointing down the Range).

His change certainly made a visible change straight away to me, ball flight straightened up (lost my nice draw flight) and ball started on target line. I also think the Grip Change stops me doing some funny things with my wrists.

To me, the grip is the most important part of the swing.

It's the only part of 'YOU' that is in contact with the 'CLUB'

If you don't have the correct grip you will not be able to let the club swing correctly.

Don't forget that it's not just your grip that is important, you have to also make sure you have the correct grip pressure.

I've no doubt that it's v. important. I've tried to change my grip on numerous ocassions but always drifted back into my current 'strong' grip. I say don't get hung up about it, tho' if you're starting out you've no reason to follow my bad example. As Wayne states there are other pieces in the jigsaw, alignment and also I think tempo and position of the club face.
