I didn't break 100 today

I smashed 100 with a round of 95.  My previous best was a 103.

I just had a great first 9 (44 against a par of 34 and that's despite lipping out three times) and then held it together despite a nine (driving out of bounds and three-putting) followed by a four-putt hole.

Great feeling when you first break into that new horizon. Well done Ian. I generally find after a good round I could go out again just to check it was not a fluke.

Congratulations on breaking 100.

When I first did it I found that I managed to do in consistantly, it took me a few rounds to finally beat 100.

I was always getting 101, 103, etc.

Keep going and don't be surprised if your next round it terrible, that's golf!!!

I'm out for nine on Wednesday and fully expect to be returning a 55 or 60.  But the thing is that I know I can do it now.

I even felt like a golfer for a couple of moments there!

Cheers guys!

I'm playing a course next monday i haven't played for about ten years, its a fairly wooded course, but i remember one hole thats a right bugger. Its 407 yards long with thick woods on either side of a fairly narrow fairway. Its a par 72 and i'm hoping to go round in 83 or so. So what i'm gonna do is use that hole as one of my bogeys, take out the risk of losing a ball or more in the trees and play it like this. Bang a 5 Iron off the tee to 190 or a bit more if its bone dry, bang a 6 iron up there to about 40 yards short. If I then do a really good pitch and putt i'll get a par, not much chance of that though, but even so a pitch on and 2 puts will do nicely for a 5.

The moral of the story is, you don't need to use all the clubs in your bag, you need to play the clubs that will get you what you want, take out the risk and see your scores tumble.

Congratulations on your score, with a bit of practice you'll be suprised how quickly that sub 100 turns into a sub 95 or less on a regular basis.

Am I the only one left on here not to break 100 now?

Well done Ian, I can only imagine how good that felt!

Thanks guys.  I'm off out this evening and feeling confident about it.  When I slice out of bounds at the first that will soon disappear.

First hole tonight: laid up before the brook, then stuffed my second shot into it.  Sliced my drop out of bounds.  Played a conservative approach, chipped on and three putted missing the second by half an inch.

See, what did I tell you?

what was your final score, and did you play like that all the way round? I suppose playing safely does have its disadvantages, as in if you lay up and stuff your next shot, that shot is gonna be further away that if you'd have driven off then stuffed it lol.

Playing safe will pay dividends in the end, just keep plugging away, once you have more consistancy you'll hardly ever see a hazard.

Have you every though, you went out of bounds coz you said you was gonna go out of bounds. Is all in the mind mate. Like the brook, was you standing there thinking, oh shit look at all that water.

Anyway what do I know, i did it twice the other week. I said to my old man, wanna see how to hit a 250 yard 5 wood lol, splash with 2 balls. I was only 15 yards off the bloody water lol.

I was overstretching myself to reach the green after taking the drop hence the slice OOB.  My own stupid fault and I should learn that lesson soon.

I did score a nine on another hole but was otherwise above my standard performance and came out with a 55 which isn't too far away from my usual score.  Having improved (to an extent) I'm finding that my increased confidence is leading me to try things that I perhaps can't do yet.  Consistently at least.

It's all in the mind, isn't it?

You just replaced one difficult shot with another. Next time, if you lay up, lay up with your next shot aswell with an iron your confident with. If you can then get on with your 3rd and at worst 3 putt you'll walk away with a 6. If you 2 putt though thats a 5. Even if you add in a duff 3rd shot you should still be able to get up and down in 3 as you won't be that far off the green.

Its very difficult for us to say try this and try that as if it goes wrong we look like plonkers lol. But I do think, for high handicappers you should be setting yourself with goals for each hole.

Play safe on the tough holes and try and get out of them with a double and really let loose with the big dog on the shorter holes that have little danger and go for pars. If you can par a few holes get a bogey on a few more by playing safe then you can soak up the odd 7 and still come away with a score similar to what you set yourself. When you get better with the driver then start risking it a bit more, or if say the trouble is on the left but you always slice the ball, then sure get it out and have a bash.

I 100% believe it will pay off in the end. Obvioulsy its only my opinion though.
