The idea to play at this course may have got lost in the mists of time, on another topic.
Therefore, just want to confirm who would like to come along for a friendly game. Venue. South Winchester on Friday 17th July, tee time 12 o'clock.
John Pettitt will be doing the honours of booking the tee time. And will confirm the cost, as he can usually do some kind of deal for us as he is a Crown Golf Member Interested players, so far, are. John Pettitt Myself James Marshall Tim Hawkins Dennis Visser Chris Perry Paul Williams David Ley, I assume, but he hasn't actually confirmed on way or the other.
So the question is...Does anybody else fancy coming along?

Would it be better to make it on 24th July then? Nothing has been booked or confirmed yet. Having just spoken to Wayne, he said he would have come but 15th clashed with a birthday. Maybe then Messrs Flood, Ley and Hewitt could come too.
John and myself will fit in with what suits everybody else |

Just need confirmation from Messrs Perry, Williams, Hawkins and Dean Elliott that the new date will suit them.

Perry, Go stuff yourself then! On my birthday as well, you should be ashamed of yourself?? You wasn't saying yesterday when you we're telling me to start a row with the missus so i could come out to play. Before all the under the thumb quotes flood in, She was Pee'd off as Yesterday would of been my sixth round on the trott! I'll only play if you put me in chris's group, David That Williams seems a decent chap to me. The change of date will suit as i dont have rush off. Paul. |

Unfortunately for me the 24th is a bit tricky, I’m coming off nights that morning, if there is a spare slot in the last group I might be able to make it but it would be dependent on how I feel when I drag myself out of bed! |

Can't do the 24th as I will be back up in Brum and will have the kids I was sulking with Williams because he pulled out on me last minute. At least the missus came tround to keep me company. |
![]() David MarshallHandicap : 9.9 Reply : Mon 29th Jun 2009 15:19 |
Therefore as as today's date, we have
John Pettitt James M Myself David Ley Wayne Santorini Paul Williams John Flood Nigel Gray Martin Millichip...Possibly, now that his lift has gone? Dennis Visser. Although he hasn't confirmed the date change.
Non players are Chris Perry and Tim Hawkins, which will be a shame. Oh...and not forgetting the 'I' person, who won't be missed anyway. |

OK guys, just off the phone with the secretary at South Winchester. I have confirmed bookings for three tee times from 1200 and a buggy for me. The cost per head I have managed to get for £25 and I have had to pay a £50 deposit. (David will know all about that) I will need definite confirmations asap, so that if we are short of a dozen I can try my own club to make up the numbers.

![]() Chris Perry[FORUM MODERATOR]Handicap : 13.4 Reply : Tue 30th Jun 2009 10:57 |
| You were lucky Govan. If I hadn't had been in the first cut one of those boxes of balls would've been mine. Mind you, I've seen you play, you need them more than me...... |
![]() Stuart GovanHandicap : 11.5 Reply : Tue 30th Jun 2009 11:10 |
I don't think these balls float or bounce across water Chris, so they would have been no use to you anyway ![]() |
![]() David MarshallHandicap : 9.9 Reply : Tue 30th Jun 2009 11:19 |
Normally his longest drive is around the ladies tee's, and nearest the pin is after about 6 shots. As for balls. If he does actually remember to take some with him when he plays, he has usually lost them all by half way round. Then again....

Two boxes of Srixons right up his street, any left Stu?

At least I can go there safe in the knowledge that the B#####d that caused my accident will have been banned from the roads due to dangerous driving. His court appearance is 14th July. It's taken 10 months for the CPS to get this to court. Apparently he has no option but to plead guilty, due to the evidence from independent witnesses that is stacked against him.
Whereas I save MY dangerous driving for the golf course.
And another thing. that ###### Nike advert is really starting to hack me off now |

![]() Paul WilliamsHandicap : 22.5 Reply : Tue 30th Jun 2009 14:38 |
David, Alfa's are lovely cars but have to be maintained on a par with Paris Hilton's trowel. I had a cooling issue(thermostat staying open) so took the car off the road for a week and used the wife's for work. I hid the car keys or took them to work with me, saying my Baby can only be driven in an emergency. Well on the Friday of said week i forgot the key, go home after work to find my pride and joy gone????? WHERE THE #### IS MY ####### CAR!!etc, etc. To be told she and her friend went shopping in it(midday Birmingham traffic) and it got slightly hot!!!!!!!!!!!!! I found her on an Azda car park, with her blood spilt all over the floor. After a transfusion started her up only for the water to go bright pink?? Telling me the head had gone The pis### was the next day i was going to do the repair HENCE THE FACT I'M NOW TRYING TO DRIVE HERS INTO THE GROUND!!! |

Is that correct, John? |
![]() John PettittHandicap : 18 Reply : Fri 3rd Jul 2009 23:03 |
That is correct, David, we need one more. List of players as I know it: David Marshall, John Pettitt, David Ley, Kevin Hewett, Paul Williams, John Flood, James Marshall, Wayne Santorini, Andrew Guyton, Nigel Gray and Dennis Visser. |

I sent out a few PM's, but none could play. Still, there are three more weeks to go, I'm sure someone will be willing to join us.
I'm going to get my secret weapon out on the course and get practising. I've got 3 matchplay comps to play, between 14th and 17th July, and a stokeplay comp on 22nd. Plus a Stableford comp. So I hope I will have some golf, and energy, left to play on 24th. Be gentle with me |

I have had a phone call this morning from Queen Elizabeth Hospital(Brum) confirming they have a space for me first thing Monday morning for an operation on my right hand. This will be an open wound, so really don't thing I'd be fit to play, plus with Floody dropping out i no-longer have a lift and my wife needs the car that day. I'm really sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. If a deposit as been paid for my place and it cannot be filled i will gladly reimburse. Hope to see you all soon. Paul. |

On the way down to South Winchester thisa morning the heavens opened up like hell on earth. The M3 was a river. On entering the club I noticed that the 11th green was totally submerged under water and I really thought that the course would have to be closed. However, the greens drained very well and at mid-day six of us ventured onto the course with torrential rain still hammering down. The front nine was pretty miserable, but thereafter the sun came out, it turned rather warm and the rest of the round was fine. Mr Marshall once again took the money with a very good 36 points, I managed to take second place overall with 34 points and Andy Kenyon with a 33 was third. Kevin and Andrew Guyton did not fare as well, but then they do not have the shots to play with. Andy played exceptionally well from the tee but was generous to us all with his rather errant short game. 24 handicap is way to high for his abilities It was nice to meet Nigel Gray and he played nice and steady. The course was its usual immaculate condition and considering the amount of rain that was dumped on it, the fairways and greens were superb. |

Thanks for arranging the game, John We need to play down here. As I told you the sun was shing and the sky was clear blue when I left at 9.45. My wife said that it was a glorious day down here and she was sunbathing in the garden, whislt we were getting soaked through. I'll try to get to Sherfield in August. See you then and thanks again |

They kind words John, thank you. It was a rather damp start but turned sunny and dry for the end of the front and the whole of the back 9 and testament to the quality of the course that is was playable both during and after the heavy rain. What an excellent course it is too. Every hole a cracker with fast greens and gullies mounds bunkers and ponds in all the wrong places! That said, managed to avoid most of the hazards and hence can't blame them for my not scoring better. Pleased with my round and it was brill to play with John and with Nigel too. As John said I was, on the whole, driving well. It was my own fumbling at the greens that put paid to a terrific round. Looking back, I frittered away at least 10 shots on just 4 holes by truely awful pitching and chipping. By way of example. On the 15th I played a magnificant drive off the tee (even if I say so myself) of over 300yards to leave a short pitch to the green. 6 shots later the ball finally dropped and then not before I'd nearly taken David Marshall's head off on the 16th tee. Oh well, that's golf. Great day. Great course. Great company. I so like this game. Thanks all. Andy |

The last hole at South Winchester is a par five downhill and turining left all the way with out of bounds all down the left and a green guarded by a small pond. I decided to try my hybrid off the tee, a G5 19deg and hit it fat resulting in a straight shot of some 120 yards. I then decided that I would use it again for the second shot, this time nobbling it very close to the out of bounds.. My third shot I selected a five iron hoping to place it within a shot of the green and on the fairway, but the hooking gods were still with me and I nearly went out of bounds again, even though the shot was adequate for length. The GPS in the buggy told me that I now had 94 yards to the hole and being all downhill I selected my Gap wedge. I promptly struck the shot straight into the hole for a birdie 4. |
![]() David MarshallHandicap : 9.9 Reply : Sat 25th Jul 2009 15:03 |
Trust you to make hard work of it, John.
I took a very easy driver off the tee, allowing for my slight fade. Was on the right hand side of the fairway with a lovely view of the green. Took an easy 7 iron to lay up at 100 yards, then an easy wedge to about 10 feet and tapped in a birdie putt. But then, you always like to be a Drama Queen |
![]() John PettittHandicap : 18 Reply : Sat 25th Jul 2009 15:51 |
| You tapped in from 10 feet and I tapped in from 94 yards, same result. |
![]() David MarshallHandicap : 9.9 Reply : Sat 25th Jul 2009 15:53 |
| OK then..What did you do on 17th hole? |
![]() Andy KenyonHandicap : 18.4 Reply : Sat 25th Jul 2009 16:14 |
I took an altogether different approach on the 18th. I didn't want to overhit a driver off the tee so went with a 5iron which I promtly hooked onto the driving range and out of bounds. I then used the same club and did vitually the same thing again but at least stayed in bounds but only 100yds from the tee. 4th shot then was an 8 iron pitch over the corner of the range and down the hill to just short of the lake leaving 110yds or so to the green with the pond on my right. I then duffed the pitch short which promptly rolled into the lake. At this point I picked up in disgust. |
![]() John PettittHandicap : 18 Reply : Sat 25th Jul 2009 17:56 |
| 17th hole, did not hit it hard enough to carry the front bunker, but managed to get out first time to the fringe, chipped up to within three feet promptly missed the putt left as I had done on about four occasions previously. In fact, David you were very fortunate to win the money. Andy should have won it by a mile. |

It was very good of you to turn up considering how awful the weather was. At one time I thought maybe they would close the corse as the greens ere all under water, but they soaked it up fine and the greens were fast and true. Glad you enjoyed the course, should have suited your power. Perhaps you will get down to Sherfield when we play next. |
