I was on the putting green practicing and thinking to myself what the most annoying thing in golf would be and that'd probably make a man lose his sanity.
1. hitting a shot out of bounds and hit the provisional shot, this time shooting a hole in one, 2. hitting a shot and getting a hole in one in either the wrong hole or on a practice green.
post what things you would do that would either drive you crazy or possibly drive you to quit the game |

Shooting under par in a monthly medal & then forgetting to sign your card thus being disqualified!! Hasn't happened to me but I know a man who did!! |

Playing in your mates invitational getting 2 2's and a top 3 finish to only realise you had forgotten to put your handicapps down on the card. Again not me but someone I know what a gutter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Playing the round of your life, remembering to sign your card, only for someone to point out that you have one to many clubs in your bag..... |

Going out as a single on a lovely warm evening and, after only 3 holes, getting stuck behind three 4 balls of work colleagues. These groups are playing ridiculously slow and putting from two inches, despite playing matchplay. Then, after taking four hours to get from the 3rd to the 14th, they walk off leaving you just 20 minutes of daylight to try to play the last 4 holes. Donnington Grove, Tuesday 9th June 2009. |

Walking down the 18th on 33 points, 3 points ahead of your playing partner knowing all you need to do to win is not blob! You blob and your playing partner chips in from 40ft for a 4 point birdie! My playing partner must of been annoyed at that!

Hitting a great 150 yd approach shot that stops about 10 foot from the hole in front of your mates who are all congratulating you only for the bloke who is now addressing the ball 2 yds infront of you to say "Hey, this is your ball, I think you have just hit mine!" Nooooooo! |

Regularly shooting good scores in general play then going out and never breaking 100 in an actual Medal or Stableford Competition. Might just be my problem that one. |

Leaving your putt on the 18th green one inch short then finding out it has cost you a place in the Golfshake Open Final. Chris Perry, Donnington Grove, Friday 19 June 2009 |

Never-mind Mate, There's the organisers cup to soften the blow. I would be gutted also, but you could also look at it another way. If you had played the par 3's better say bogey each of them you would have qualified! I'd say thats what cost you on Friday mate. |

Guilty. I took a six on two par 3's. One was due to a tee shot leving me absolutely no shot and dropping would not have improved things (Paul will attest) and the other one was just a very poorly played hole by me. I bogied the other two. And I agree that par 3's are definitely my weakness. I only needed a couple of gross bogies on the last two holes for 36 points and with hindsight I should've laid up for the long (186 yard) par 3 and chipped on instead of going for the green. I was still beating myself up on the 18th tee and pulled the tee shot. |

Playing perfectly from tee to green, then missing tap in putts from less than a foot. Paul Williams will attest at the N v S, Kevin Hewitt will attest from the Golfshake Open Qualifier. |

Stu, you were putting from 1feet?? I heard Paul was giving them to Chris!!
ONLY JESTING |

John, only a mug would give me putts of any distance, especially short ones. Kev Hewitt gave me a good tip about putting really agressively from that distance, which I shall be trying out in future rounds! What with that and JP's advice, I should be +2 by the end of the year |

Playing great from tee to green, then 3 putting every hole on the front nine. My bird knicknamed me the Hulk after that. She just happened to walk round with me that day. She was pissin herself laughing for the first 9 holes. 9 over after 9 with 9 3 putts, I was mad as hell. |

Qualifying to play in the Golfshake Open in the high hancipad category when playing off 28 then playing some blinding rounds and seeing the handicap drop 4 shots. I just need to play 40 duff rounds between now and september then play the round of my life. Too honest - that's my problem. |

An admirable trait Andy
Stu does that mean you'll be 15.6 |

Yeah I wish. I was off 6 when I was younger, but have hardly played for the last 16 years. I seem to get back into golf every couple of years and play for a few months, and after a couple of months I am back to averaging what I was doing as a kid, as in playing to a 6 handicap. I'm always after improving, and basically demand it of myself. I always aim to beat or get the same as I did the game before, you can imagine the frustration with playing so good tee to green then messing it all up on the green, knowing even half the way round, i'm not gonna beat my last score. I suppose everyones different, but I plan my way around the course. A bogey on this hole, par on that, birdie on this. If I then go and bogey a hole i plan to par, i'm already playing catchup. I suppose it puts pressure on myself, but its just the way i've always done it. I knw i have to get a certain score on certain holes coz I know which holes i'll most likely not be getting birdies on. Very rarely do I birdie a hole I'm not within 40 yards of the green after my drive or 2nd on a par 5. Coz from 40 yards or more I don't usually get it within 10 feet, and i hardly make a put that over 10 feet. Maybe 1 in 6 or 7 I suppoe i'll get down in 2 from over 40 yards. |

Ian, you've obviously got a apassion for the game and are probably one of those buggers that pick the clubs up and do a 40 pointer, luaghing it off etc. If I were you, give it a year wuith a decent committment to practice and I 'd like to see you then. |

Suppose I could add "losing a brand new Srixon on the practice putting green" to my list of golfing annoyances now... |

Oh I don't know about the 40 points. I never have a handicap, joining boughton tomorrow and getting one will be the first time i've been a member of a golf club and having a handicap will be a first for me since I was a member of clitheroe golf club when I was 16. I'm hoping by joining it'll keep me playing, so yes, I'd like to see where i'm gonna be in a year. I'll definately be getting some lesson though, so hopefully that'll make a difference. |

Having a terrible round in the Monthly medal, being so angry that you head out after a couple of beers for a few holes practice. Get to the par 5 5th, good drive then a 4 iron into the hole for an albatross with no one around to witness it. Gutted. |

I played Southport GC donkeys years ago when I was off 6. There's apar 5 over 600 yards, was 30 yards short in 2, chipped on then bloody 4 putted lol. My old man was laughing his tits off at me chucking my putter and cursing. |

the one thing that would drive me to quit the game is everyone having a go at me just because i am a teenager trying to enjoy a good sport

A couple of new ones for me now from this weekend. In a 36 hole (over two days) Club Championship shooting 77 first day to get into the thick of things then shooting 103 in the next days 18 holes. How can you have two completely different rounds in less then 24 hours? Also then finding out I was DQ'd losing my 2's sweep prize because for the last 18 Holes I'd played with the wrong handicap marked on my card. Which I hadn't noticed because Joe Bloggs marking my card never bothered to total it up and then do a nett calculation. I knew my gross was correct from the card I was marking, so agreed when he quoted it and signed the card never looking closely at it.
Playing in a Medal Competition with a 48 Handicap Player who takes 14 shots to move the ball off the 1st tee. It tells you the 18 holes following are going to be a long affair. |
