Happy days! Won my first monthly medal comp at my club today, shooting my best ever round at my course! One of my playing partners was off the same handicap as me and he was playing very well. I obviously realised that I needed to beat him shot for shot if I was to be in contention so basically it sort of turned into matchplay on the closing few holes as he was a stroke ahead of me. I honestly believe the experience of last weekend paid off for me as I stayed calm and turned it round on the last 3 holes to beat him by 2 strokes, and win the comp by one stroke overall! I won't broadcast my stableford score as we might go down that route of forum again!! Let's just say it was one of those rounds when it came together and even with one total disaster hole I still shot well below handicap.. My Golfshake handicap has taken a 1.8 reduction as a result, now down to 17.7 - a good step in the direction of my target 15 handicap by the end of this season. Hope some of you others are also reaping the benefits of last weekends comp, I'm personally getting more confident by the week. Sorry, just had to share it!!! |

Well done, Jim, not that it surprises me at all having seen you play at Wokefield. I would think your target is easily attainable for you as you have a nice sound method. |

Thanks John, just trying to avoid getting ahead of myself! Will just keep practicing and playing hard and see what I can do this year, enjoying it more than ever. Will set a renewed second half of year target if my 15 seems well achievable by then. I know how this game can bite you back so will just stay focussed. Thanks for your encouragement last week, appreciate the confidence boosting words! |

It's true Jim, competitions like that do help your confidence, both pyschologically and course management - and the more you do the less likely you are to get phased by them and you can concentrate on playing rather then worrying that you are going to make a complete a*se of yourself in front of others. Get yourself into some more comps - there's nothing like the buzz of them. 42ish points then? |

Tim, how would you know how many points he got Well done Jim.
The next golfshake.com event will more than likely be a pairs or team stableford event, unless anyone else has any suggestions ? The matchplay style is great fun and brings a different level of competitiveness to the game.

Nice one Jim, and nice to meet you in person too. My N v S experience was that I shot 17 shots better on the Monday by taking a half set and just concentrating on keeping the ball in play with an iron. Decided to do the same yesterday and am going to give this a try for the next few rounds. Not nearly so knackered by the end and amazing how consistently I seem to play. Score was nothing special (90) but a milestone in that I scored on every hole. Nothing worse than a 6. |

Stu, I would have expected better than 90 then if you kept a six off your card, what happened did you play the par 3's crap?? |
![]() John PettittHandicap : 19.4 Reply : Sun 26th Apr 2009 15:45 |
He must have had 18 fives. |
![]() John FloodHandicap : 12.3 Reply : Sun 26th Apr 2009 16:05 |
that would explain it John, 5's on par 3's otherwise he would have played to handicap (almost) |
![]() John PettittHandicap : 19.4 Reply : Sun 26th Apr 2009 16:12 |
Yes John, he took 90 shots without a six which means that he could not have one 3 or one four or the score would not be 90 so he must have had 18 fives or a couple of sevens (Which are not sixes). |

Thanks for all your kind comments guys. Yep, certainly intend in playing in as many comps as poss to push myself. Potentially in a pro-am event next Sunday, but need to find a babysitter! If not then next event is I have my first league game for my club at the end of next month so will be looking to keep soem form heading into that. Hope you've all been enjoying the good weather and getting some golf in... |

John F, John P Nothing worse than a six, but quite a few sixes! Usually I have at least one seven or an ugly eight. I didn't play the par 3s very well as it happens. As always, could have been better, but it was the consistency of the ball striking that pleased me. Just need to turn it into better scoring. Feel I'm playing better these days but my scores don't reflect it. Maybe it's a case of having to go back before I can go forward! |

Nice one Jim, I'm hoping I get a similar result tomorrow when I play! |
![]() Jim DorringtonHandicap : 12.6 Reply : Mon 27th Apr 2009 11:55 |
Of course you will Lee. Just pretend every hole is a 'nearest the pin' comp and it'll be a breeze for you... 18 6ft birdie putts!! Good luck... |
