I've had my taylormade rac o/s2 irons for around a year, in that time my handicap has dropped quite well. my wedge play is good/consistant, my driver/woods are good when i dont loose my head.I do feel though that my irons are now holding me back mainly due to the offset and with that said i'm definatley going to change and have been looking at the new T/M tour preferred irons. I'm a bit of a taylormade fan, but i should consider all options avalible to me!

any recommendations guys.

Like I told you last week, try as many different types as you can and don't worry about the name on the club.  Forged heads give great feedback if you can find some you like, but the shaft is just as important.  Get fitted for shafts, grips, length and lie as a minimum when you have found a club you like.

And if you have decided before the end of October and you speak nicely to me and I might just  buy them in the US for you.

Dave,

Just contacted my usual dealer and there is a 10 week wait.  This means you didn't order early enough.  Sorry about that.

I already have an oder for a hybrid and a putter froma bloke at work.  That means I can sneak something back for myself in the box without the missus noticing........

Paul,

It is very much a personal choice.

I have the R7 TP but not overly impressed with them. I don't feel they are a shotmaking club.

I feel I cannot make shots (particularly when needed in bad weather) with them so it may be a case of bad workman etc.

They just do not have the feel of old fashioned blades. I would recommend progressive blades (high irons pure blades and lower irons cavity backs).

The good point about the TPs is the minimal offset - you are correct, offset will hold you back as you develop your swing along the right swing path.

They will encourage you to correct swing faults as you won't get away with mishits but be prepared to look like a prat as you develop your game.

Hope this helps,

Phi

Hi Phil, thanks for your comments. I dont think i,m ready for blades yet, but i know i need to get away from my offset irons, so will be getting a fitting session within the next few weeks.

Paul, don't knock something till you've played with them or tried them out on the range at the very least. There is a lot of rubbish talked about high handicapplayers shouldn't play with this type of club or that type of club.

Many sales people & golfers in general make assumptions about players simply from what handicap they are. Try lost of stuff out I'd highly recommend any of the Callaway X20 irons from the forged the excelent tour irons etc. Though you can hardly go wrong these days as there is so much good quality stuff out there

Hi Paul,

I've gone from 20 down to 14 this year with snake eyes 600c irons. I have recently bought some Mizuno MX-25s and love them. Should have bought earlier. Very forgiving and a tiny offset. I was told they'd take me down to about 10 H/C. Recommended by 2 seperate Pros as well. Gotta be worth a try at American Golf on the Vector Thingy?.

Paul, i,m fairly oopen minded with clubs. the two which i have in mind at the moment are: taylormade tour burner tp irons and titleist ap2, they are both a mile away from what i play now. like i said i,m gonna go for a fitting aiming to try mizuno, srixion, taylormade, callaway, titleist etc.
