hi, i was just wondering if anyone else has ever come across freinds or playing partners who refuse to play certain courses anymore ebecause they are local or "too easy". A freind of myne whos hair is receeding will not play a course (crookhill park) that is just up the road because hes become a golf snob.....even though i have never seen him play well around it. is he simple running from a local gem of a challange?

cheers

I do know someone a bit like that, he only plays at his own club because their greens are the best in Derbyshire, OK they are very, very good (Horsley Lodge) but he now can't play anywhere else.  The course is in really good condition usually but the consequence is that for 5 months of the year they play winter rules!

I really enjoyed Crookhill when we did a comp there a few months ago, OK it's not the best course I've played but it's a long shot from being the worst and brilliant valure for money.  I suppose it all depends what you want from your golfing experience, personally I'd rather play a lot and not be overly involved in the social side.  Some people want it the other way round.

I played Crookhill in my late teens years ago when i lived in the village. (Edlington) I thought it was very snobby then. Although i was a spotty teen with crap clubs holes in my golf shoes etc..

10 years later I am due to return to sunny Doncaster to visit friends and actually suggested we play Crookhill. I would be intrested to see what others think of it too before crossing back into my native South Yorks.

(NB: It cant be too snobby if they Tim in!!)

I haven't played Crookhill before, but it is horses for course, at the end of the day a course is only as good as the characters of the people that play there, and a lot of these 'wonderful clubs' which are great to play have a membership full of snobs, both in a golfing sense and in a social sense.

I don't really see the point in being a member of an expensive posh course with fantastic greens because all you will do then is complain about the greens everywhere else!!
