I know this is a million miles away from golf but just received a PCN for £70 for parking outside my own house during a restricted time period.

Im not going to deny the car was there but wondered whether anybody knew of any free advice to fight this.

The yellow line is broken in many places and as far as i can tell dosnt end with a bar at 90degrees instead runs continously around the block and joins up with itself. Does any of this make a difference?

Take a photo of the lines and send it off to the council - you can only try!

Colin,

Have a look at this website. You'll get loads of info, and the forums are excellent.

Good Luck!

Col,

I read somewhere about a guy taking the cuncil to court over a parking ticket due to the markings being broken and not ended correctly and winning.  He argued that the markings were not defined in the Highway Code (not continous line with 90* ending) and therefore had no meaning.  Think he was in Norfolk.

Photos are the key.

Sounds like you knew you shouldn't have parked there so what's your beef?

Given that it's right outside your house - you should know the parking situation better than anyone.

Forgot the car was not on the drive. Remembered 15 mins too late and missed the council jobsworth by about 5 mins. No beef im clearly in the wrong just annoyed thats all could have 10 rounds of golf for the price of the ticket

It doesn't matter where he parked the car, if the markings are wrong JP. If the markings are not continuous, and not terminated properly, then there is no parking prohibition outside Colin's house. This is fact, asuming the info were are being told about is correct. The jobsworth spoken about should know the law better than anyone, so save some trees and don't bother sticking tickets on the cars, but ring the council and get em to fix the bloody markings!!!

Fight it Col. I saw that same programme Chris mentioned. Iirc it was a long fight he had, but he set a precedent for the rest of us by fighting it.

Why should it matter how it ends? Using that as an argument is jobsworthy in itself. If I park on a yellow line I wouldn't walk 500 yards down the road to see how it ends, and if it ends 'incorrectly' I don't thnk 'hey that's fine I can park here and go through six months of complaining to get let off'.

I just accept I parked illegaly and take it like man.

Ok then, let's look at it like this. You are playing a course for the 1st time, and are told there is out-of-bounds to the right on holes 4, 5, and 6. On the 6th, you hit your ball into it trees to the right of the fairway, play a provisional, but find your original ball. There are no white stakes showing the area as OOB because the greenstaff moved them and didn't put them back. Would you go and play your ball from where it lies?

If it was the first time and I could see no stakes indicating an out of bounds then I would have played the found ball.
