Wayne Santorini![]() Handicap : 15.3 Location : ![]() Posts : | Posted : Mon 11th Aug 2008 10:32 I believe it time the doors were opened for ALL, after all there are Ladies Golfers that are members and I believe as a member you should have "Access All Area's". And they provide a welcome diversion. |

Christopher Watmore![]() Handicap : 15.9 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 11th Aug 2008 11:24 Depends really Wayne, if all Women looked like your avatar then they'd be welcome in my club and I'd even pay their membership for the year. Sadly it seems like Golf doesn't really attract a certain age bracket of women these days and theres a distinct lack of that bracket around the Golf clubs. |
Wayne Santorini![]() Handicap : 15.3 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 11th Aug 2008 11:34 The age bracket isn't the issue How stuffy is that. |
Robbie Allison![]() Handicap : 18.7 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 11th Aug 2008 12:19 In this day and age Abergele GC should get slaughtered.. How can they discriminate and get away with it.. We have women in our club and they are our equals as they should be... If my wife was not allowed in then I would not go in (showers excluded)

Chris Perry![]() Handicap : 23.2 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 11th Aug 2008 12:20 Sutton Coldfield GC in Birmingham is men only FULL STOP. No women allowed at the club, let lone in the bar. Completely inappropriate in this day and age and I dread to think what would happen should someone take them to court. All clubs should be open to all players regardless of age, sex, race or religion, subject to them being able to play to the required standard that the COURSE, NOT THE COMMITTEE demands. |
Kevin Hewitt![]() Handicap : 10.6 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 11th Aug 2008 12:31 I agree with Robbie and Wayne - I played West Cornwall near St. Ives a couple of years back and it had a separate Ladies Club House which looked like a modified garden shed from the outside!! I'm sure that I've played the odd course where the lady members are only allowed to play on a Sunday afternoon whilst being expected to pay a full membership rate. Surely all members should have equal access to the course, club house, ect regardless of gender. Wayne - perhaps the GC in Abergele GC stands for "Gentlemen's Club". |
Wayne Santorini![]() Handicap : 15.3 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 11th Aug 2008 12:51 Robbie, EVERYONE should be barred from the showers when you are in them Could be Kevin |
Robbie Allison![]() Handicap : 18.7 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 11th Aug 2008 12:53 Like fairways Wayne those showers are a lonely place... ![]() |
Wayne Santorini![]() Handicap : 15.3 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 11th Aug 2008 12:55 Robbie you wouldn't be you if your tee shots were going straight ![]() |
David Marshall![]() Handicap : 9.4 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 11th Aug 2008 13:08 I stand by what I said, on the other post, about women in golf clubs. |
Jonny P![]() Handicap : 11.2 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 11th Aug 2008 14:22 Yes they should be allowed (I don't know of many clubs where they are banned to be honest?) but most clubs seem to go one step further and have Ladies days where female-only is the order of the day. It's the same in other places, swimming pools are another place where you get women-only nights. I go up and they say you can't swim becasue you have a todger - I say fine I understand it's ladies night, tell me when Male night is and I'll come back. Oh that's right - there is no mens night...there is no men's day at the golf course...ect etc I don't agree with it, but if it really is a question of equallity - then a male only golf club does balance it out.

Jon T![]() Handicap : 10.9 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 11th Aug 2008 15:58 How about Formby Hall GC near Southport that has a seperate clubhouse for ladies, and a nice clubhouse it is too. But, it doesn't end there. They even have a course just for the ladies. I think both sexes can play on either course, but only so many times per year, and by invite only. The main course completely surrounds the ladies course. I think this is the height of stuffiness, but what a great way to solve the age old problem that men seem to have with women golfers in the amateur scene. |
Jonny P![]() Handicap : 11.2 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 11th Aug 2008 16:01 That's not stuffiness it's just absurd. It's a wonder what kind of ladies and men join this type of club? Ladies who hate men and men who hate ladies?

Sandra Andrews![]() Handicap : 36 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 11th Aug 2008 21:58 Most Course that I know of now have a Set Fee for Membership (Junior & 5 Day Week reductions only) and no set days/times that are Men or Ladies Only.
When I used to play (30 Years Ago) the Ladies had a different fee scale and were not allowed to play the course prior to 12noon at weekends (unless it was a mixed comp) so had a ladies day on Tuesday. There was also certain competition days when Ladies were not allowed on the course. Clubhouse - I've never known any restrictions on ladies.

Michael Noel![]() Handicap : 15.4 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Tue 12th Aug 2008 00:31 I'd rather play with a woman golfer than the men (exception for my little brother) without question. Especially a single one.

Leigh Johnston![]() Handicap : 34 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Wed 13th Aug 2008 12:39 All courses that I have played at so far have not got this ridiculous rule of no women in the club house or on the course. Not sure how i wourld react if I was told that i was oly allowed to play on certain days and times. I dont think its fair and both men and woman should be able to play together should they wish to.

Steven Watmore![]() Handicap : 12.4 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Wed 13th Aug 2008 12:41 I don't think we should let women in to all the golf clubs. they should stay home and cook tea where they belong . Golf is a man's sport and really the introduction of women has only lessened the sport in my opinion. Joe Vanist (P.I.G) |

Jonny P![]() Handicap : 11.2 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Wed 13th Aug 2008 12:47 Leigh, do you have the same distain for women-only nights in bars and swimming pools? (amongst other things)

Steven Watmore![]() Handicap : 12.4 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Wed 13th Aug 2008 13:05 Seriously Can anyone explain why the fees at some courses charge women a significantly lower green fee. I was looking at a new course recently and the womens fees were £200 less than the mens with no obvious reason. I think it's all fair game and descriminating between sexes in golf is daft it's just golf. i think mixed comps aren't ideal but other than that bring on the ladies! I can't see the similarity to women only nights at pubs etc surely that's geting a bit too political. |
Jonny P![]() Handicap : 11.2 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Wed 13th Aug 2008 13:18 Why is it political? The situation is no different than having women banned form golf courses or the clubhouse during certain hours.
|
Jonny P![]() Handicap : 11.2 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Wed 13th Aug 2008 13:20 Your questin about lower green fee is probably encouragment I assume, the ame with Juniors.
|
Sandra Andrews![]() Handicap : 36 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Wed 13th Aug 2008 14:07 You may find that the lower fees clubs also have restrictions on Tee Time availability. That was how it used to be when I played before |
Steven Watmore![]() Handicap : 12.4 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Wed 13th Aug 2008 14:11 i think having women only swimming or ladies nights at bars are more from a security aspect than a segragation issue. I can't see why a golf club would have the same needs to ban ladies from the course or clubhouse for these reasons.

Jonny P![]() Handicap : 11.2 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Wed 13th Aug 2008 14:46 Security? So the purse isn't safe when men are in the pool?

Steven Watmore![]() Handicap : 12.4 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Wed 13th Aug 2008 14:49 I'm sure it's a different type of money box they want to keep secure |
Jonny P![]() Handicap : 11.2 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Wed 13th Aug 2008 14:57 What's the world come to - I wouldn't have even thought of that....

Jonny P![]() Handicap : 11.2 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Wed 13th Aug 2008 15:05 I wasn't on about that (I actually thought of a few worse ones) I was on about having to have ladies night at the local pool becaue of your 'reason'. How did we get off the topic of golf and on to the ethics of single sex pool schedules..

Mark Bond![]() Handicap : 13.7 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Wed 13th Aug 2008 17:37 Women hate men shouting 'In the hole' when they are having a swim. Especially if the speedo's contain a 'wood'. (that is the 2nd time I have used that line within a week - but i think I got away with it) |
Leigh Johnston![]() Handicap : 34 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Thu 14th Aug 2008 16:01 JP - I dont actually go to women only events at the pool or pub and dont think that they are fair either. If they insist on these then as you said there should be a night for men only at the pools.
|
Steven Watmore![]() Handicap : 12.4 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Thu 14th Aug 2008 16:05 I agree we should not have women only pool nights , put your 50p on the table and winner stays on! |
David Marshall![]() Handicap : 9.4 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Thu 14th Aug 2008 16:35 Must be ever so confusing for Waynetta and Sobey, when they go out...They are neither one thing or the other. |
Jon T![]() Handicap : 10.9 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Thu 14th Aug 2008 17:17 A bit unfair on Sobey that one Dave. Waynetta I can agree with, with his "Creamer like getups", but Sobey dresses quite sensibly imo ![]() |
David Marshall![]() Handicap : 9.4 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Thu 14th Aug 2008 17:30 Sobey may well dress sensibly. But have you seen the way it minces around a golf course? Or anywhere else for that matter |

it's more to do with some clubs, Abergele GC, in North Wales a couple of years ago had a Strict "NO WOMEN" in the games room bar area!!!!

but it's not uncommon for a percentage of welsh clubs to be the same (at least a couple of years ago anyway).
