Lincoln Webb![]() Handicap : 21.5 Location : ![]() Posts : | Posted : Sun 27th Jul 2008 09:09 Hi all Does anyone have any tips on breaking in new golf shoes, other than to keep wearing them?...seeing the blisters take a little while to bugger off! Just bought some new Addidas tour 360, comfy to start with but soon rubbed up my heel to form a couple of 50 pence piece size blisters...any help would great.

But I carry a roll of Elastoplast cushion sticky bandage in my golf bag, and cut a piece to size to stick on my heel. Cures the problem before the rubbing of the shoe starts. Then after about 10 rounds the shoe is broken in, and nice and comfy, then no need for the plasters. |

Glenn Watson![]() Handicap : 28 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Sun 27th Jul 2008 12:37 You can use a how water bottle stuffed into the shoe then filled with hot water to soften the upper for 5-10 minutes then remove and put your feet inside, walk around in them for 1/2 hour then remove and let them cool Once you've done this a few times they will soften and mold to your feet. This has worked for my last few pairs of shoes. |
Lee Miller![]() Handicap : 25.1 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Sun 27th Jul 2008 19:54 I agree with David and John. Carry Elastoplasts. I am also 5 rounds into a new pair of shoes and find that changing my socks halfway round helps for the first 2 0r 3 rounds. Its not very socially acceptable but it helps. |
Kevin Hewitt![]() Handicap : 10.6 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Sun 27th Jul 2008 22:08 Sorry to go against the grain, but I am currently using my fourth pair of ECCO golf shoes, not the cheapest of shoes, but they fit like a glove from day one - so I don't carry any plasters or bandages around the course with me when playing. I'm afraid when it comes to shoes you gets what you pays for. |
Wayne Santorini![]() Handicap : 15.3 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 28th Jul 2008 13:18 I have never had blisters on the heel of any shoes I've bought but I did get blisters on my toes 2 years ago when i took only one pair of shoes to the Algarve because I'd been led to believe the Footjoy Aqualites were brilliant, not only were they the worse pair I've had but also the tightest in width, needless to say after 7 rounds in 7 days I left them in the bin outside the Gramacho Clubhouse. ![]() |
Chris Perry![]() Handicap : 23.2 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 28th Jul 2008 13:24 Wayne "Imelda Marcos" Santorini only took one pair of shoes with him? Don't believe that. The airline must've lost your case with all the others in. |
Wayne Santorini![]() Handicap : 15.3 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 28th Jul 2008 14:11 I was led to believe they were the Dogs B******s, they were right about the second word anyway. It's only over the last 18mths Mr Perry that I have acquired the need to co-ordinate my attire and trust me it's expensive. I'm currently getting myself sorted for the Algarve next Feb where I'm sure some of those whom have not taken sunglasses will struggle to focus on the game in hand

Satwinder Sandhu![]() Handicap : 28 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 28th Jul 2008 14:45 I swear by plasters, as I also tried 3 pairs of shoes. Price was not necessarily an issue. Shape of by feet - yes. So it is down to both breaking them in and individuals foot. Another option would bbe two pairs of socks, that would reduce rubbing but not as effective as plasters.

Jon T![]() Handicap : 10.9 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 28th Jul 2008 16:59 In the real world I'm a size 11, but in FootJoy's world I seem to now be a UK size 9. Go figure!! I've always bought the size 10.5 or 11, because they felt right, and never contemplated wearing size 9s until I put my left foot in a size 10 and it wouldn't stay on my foot whilst walking (heel came out the shoe). I always used to get blisters on heel and where my arch should be (I have overly flat feet, and a 2 size difference between my feet), but with these new Pods I'm only getting blisters on my big toes caused by the way I walk, not rubbing as such. I think it's all down to getting shoes that fit properly, and exactly. |
Phil Greenhill![]() Handicap : 16.9 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Fri 12th Sep 2008 21:26 To avoid blisters on the course completely. Remove spikes from shoes. Wear shoes around the house for a few days, even if just sitting watching TV, just a couple of hours at a time helps but the longer the better. I've not had a blister yet. Worked with my football boots when i was younger (& more energetic) & works with golf shoes. But as someone said earlier 'Ya gets what ya pay for' |

James Livett![]() Handicap : 22.5 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 15th Sep 2008 15:24 I am on my 3rd pair of Hi-Tecs (various models) and have not had to break any of them in. My most recent pair I wore for the first time on a Society Day and played in them over 36 holes. I swear by good thick socks (Ashworth at the moment), a half size extra on the fit plus a wide fitting. Works for me

Paul Summerside![]() Handicap : 28 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 15th Sep 2008 16:04 Never had any problems with blisters when I've worn Footjoy shoes. The only golf shoes I've ever had any problems with on the course are Hi-Tec ones & then it was only one pair that gave me jip at the heal. Another poster mentioned he had to get a smaller size footjoy than he's used to. Now I always used to take size 8 for years in normal street shoes, then suddenly when shoes started being designed for crusty the clown I suddently needed size 9 shoes. Yet In footjoy I'm suddenly an size 8 once more. Oh & another thing, they do broard fittings, another godsend. Someone mentioned about the Addidas 360 Tour 360.Now I'd looked at some of these, but in the shop I was struggling to find just the right size & fitting as they had a limited supply of both & I feel it maybe excess movement in the shoe that is causing the problems to the poster. Morral, just as you'd take a lot of time getting the right clubs fitted to you, spend time getting properly fitted for golf shoes, & pick the best quality shoes you can, as during a day, you could be playing one or two rounds of golf in a day, not counting range time, which on one of my average days golfing could turn into several hours. So considering you could be upright & moving for 10 or more hours of golf in the height of the season at one time & maybe walking between 5 & 10 miles in that time, with the additional movement & excercise on the range, you really want the best golf shoe you can... Get quality. You may notneed to buy the most expensive shoe out there, but spending that extra tenner to get a decent quality shoe pays off dividends. Never yet needed to break in a footjoy shoe yet & guessing the guy with the Ecco shoes is of the same opinion to myself as he's been able to wear his right from the word go. |
