I went to watch the last round at Wentworth yesterday and was pleased to see Jimenez win.

I also went to watch the final round of the British Open at Carnoustie last July and throughly enjoyed that too.

But the thing that amazes me is the standard of golf that you get to see.  These guys, and as stupid as it sounds, are on a completely different level.  I cannot believe how easy they make the game look.  Watching it on TV is one thing, but actually experiencing these guys for real is astonishing.

Just makes me realise, that no matter how good I feel I've played, I've got no chance (even if I was serious enough about it!) of getting to that level!

And I'm really up for a round after watching yesterdays spectacle.  No matter how good or bad I play!

Happy golfing peeps!

Yeah having also been glued to the box for Wentworth (a local pro I know called Paul Streeter competed and another I've competed against in Spanish Pro-ams David Shacklady also competed) and having been to Carnoustie last year for the Open, I fully agree they play a version of Golf I will never be familiar with.

The thing that I hate most about the Pros in these events is how they can hit a ball into trouble in the rough and always get out and pretty much always get it close so they can still make a good score. If I get in rough like that I'm lucky if I can get the ball a hundred yards or even back to the fairway. These guys regularly play shots out of rough 200 yards or more and get it near the pin. If I could learn any skill that would be the one I'd want.

I was directly opposite where Oliver Wilson was aiming when he took a penalty drop on the 17th in the holly bush.  He hit that shot off virtually solid ground.  Okay, he still dropped a shot seeing the hole out but after teeing into the holly bush, then hitting that shot to about 100-120 yards of the green was quality..

I agree that the professionals play a different game but the one thing that it is worth trying to emmulate is the ability not to hit two bad shots in a row.  I think most of us are held back because we are thinking more about the shot we've just played than the one we are about to hit.

The other interesting thing is that the pro's seem very good at knowing what they are capable of.  You do see them hit some incredible shots out of trouble but you do also see them pitch out sideways when they know that the big heave out of the rough towards the pin is not the percentage shot.

I went to Lock Lomond for last years scottish open and it's a real treat, but i totally agree on how good these guys are . 1st tee surrounded by hundreds of people and drive after drive straight as an arrow.

Also have you seen how far it is to just reach the fairway, i don't think i could reach most of them.

It's great to watch but when you next pl;ay don't belive you can do it  ;0)

I followed Tiger Woods around the Duetchebank Open in Boston three years ago, along with 95% of all the patrons.

Watching these guys hit their second shots to the greens was what amazed me the most, not to mention putting from everywhere within a few feet.

About 5 years ago, I saw the European Tour play at Gleneagles and the following day I played the same Nicklaus course.  It's really depressing hitting your third shot from all the divots made by the pro's during the previous 4 days where their first shot landed.   To make matters worse, I was playing the yellow tees whereas the pro's played their tee shots from sometimes 50-100 yards back behind me!

Another thing about following Tiger around a course.  After he putts out, the entire throng of people start scrambling for position on the next hole.  This was truly amazing and I can see why it's so hard for the other pro's in the group in front or behind.  It's shear stampedeing and noisy.

Following Faldo around at The Open used to be just the same stampede. The difference now is that stampede is seen wherever Tiger goes, and every tournament he plays in, not just the one major on British soil each year.
