London area practice facilities for short game--via the tube?

Are there any good short game outdoor practice areas in or around London accessible via a tube ride and then walking from there?

I live in central London and have no car but my short game is in dire need of work.

For that matter, what other courses are around London other than Trent Park off the Picadilly line and Mitchum Junction via Victoria Station. I really hate to pay more for the tube ride and then a cab ride than my round of golf costs.

You could do worse than having a Butchers at www.golfinlondon.co.uk

It's an excellent blogsite listing nearly all golf courses in and around London, including Par 3s, pitch + putts and ranges.

If memory serves me right, if you look through the archives, you should find an article addressing your particular request (ie. Courses close to tube stations)

BTW Ally Pally pitch + putt is open again, after being shut for a year or so.

hi michael,

one that i use a bit is the par 3 pitch and putt in Hanger Lane, west London. For a pitch and putt its not at all bad with the holes averaging about 100-120 yards and the greens are usually in good nick.

Its about a 5 min walk from Hanger Lane Station (which is on the central Line).

It can get a bit busy on the weekends but week days any after work its usually quiet.

Other ones that are worth a look would be Perivale Park golf course ( a 9 hole parkland course) which is about a 15 min walk from Perivale Tube (again on the central Line) there is a large practice area there with a nice putting green and a practice bunker. Also Horsenden Hill golf course, again a 9 hole course which is very tightly tree lined, so good for a irons only game, its a bit harder to get to and is about a 20min walk from perivale or sudbury.

Hope this helps.

Danny
