Robbie Allison![]() Handicap : 18.7 Location : ![]() Posts : | Posted : Thu 27th Mar 2008 08:52 What value do you put on your golf shoes. Would you consider these to be as important a piece of equipment as the driver, putter, wedge etc or is it just a case of if the price fits b*gger the shoe. I have only had two pair of shoes in the 5 years playing golf and these have both been presents so I have never considered cost. The time has now come for me to buy shoes and my thoughts are that if you can spend "X" pounds on gear then "X" pounds on shoes should be equally important as comfortable feet are a must in this game. But I don't spend megga bucks on clubs, I buy good gear cheap as possible and so the shoes will be bought on the same basis. But what do you do - would you spend more on say a wedge or putter than you would shoes or vise versa even. NWOT....... |
Wayne Santorini![]() Handicap : 13.9 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Thu 27th Mar 2008 09:10 Robbie I value shoes as much if not a bit more than the equipment, nothing worse than coming of the course with either wet or tired feet especially the tired feet as it affects your thoughts when playing. I currently have the following: Bite Ordontics £89:99 Bite Biotecs £89:99 Hi Tec CDTI £79:00 Hi Tec Boots (mudskippers for bad winter use) £39:99 Footjoy Golf Athletics £69:99 It also allows to me to never have to wear the same shoes more than one day at a time (take 2 or 3 pairs to the Algarve for a week's use). Am I excessive??????????? |
Matt Hargraves![]() Handicap : 24 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Thu 27th Mar 2008 09:13 Saw an advert in golf mag. Footjoy are letting you design your own colour scheme |
Christopher Watmore![]() Handicap : 15.9 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Thu 27th Mar 2008 09:30 I don't scrimp on Golf Shoes. My Last two pairs have been Footjoy Myjoys. Some people laugh when they hear I've spent £100 on a pair of shoes. However because I'm wearing them all day, pretty much everyday they are well worth the money in my view. They are comfortable and hard wearing. May be tempted to look at the Reelfits the next time my shoes come up for renewal at the end of the summer. |
Luke Tricker![]() Handicap : 16.9 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Thu 27th Mar 2008 09:38 I have had the same pair of Adidas golf shoes for years - they weren't particularly expensive, but very comfortbale and waterproof, and they are the two most important things when it comes to golf shoes! I too will be looking for a new pair soon though, as mine are pretty old and the Footjoys that Matt was talking about have already caught my eye - I think ive been suckered in by their marketing - "designing" your own shoe does sound pretty good! |

Luke Tricker![]() Handicap : 16.9 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Thu 27th Mar 2008 09:41 .....oh and in answer to Waynes question....yes five pairs of golf shoes is excessive!!! |
Matt Hargraves![]() Handicap : 24 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Thu 27th Mar 2008 09:43 I like the look at that, to but not sure id want either white or black with either orange or yellow on them. Do you think white orange and yellow go toogether? My foot joy ones that i got at jjb for around £40 are ok keep my feet dry and are comfey. TBH i think if they keep you dry, blister free and kive you good traction then there ok |
Simon Overland![]() Handicap : 12.1 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Thu 27th Mar 2008 09:52 i have Nike SP-5 in white Nike SP-5 in black Some addidas that look like Run DMC trainers for those who know what i'm on about. and Addidas Mud boots with gaiters. best bet is buy them in the states. When the SP-5's first came out over here they were £90. got them in the callaway golf center in vegas for $60. Bargain and so comfy they are like slippers one point to anyone reading this who is taking up golf and wants to buy some. DO NOT BUY OVER THE INTERNET. go and try them on. You wont regret it |
Robbie Allison![]() Handicap : 18.7 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Thu 27th Mar 2008 10:24 guess all you guy's are of the same opinion as me. Although I will shop around I won't just buy cheap now and regret later. One thing I won't do is buy over the internet Simon. The fitting services ain't very good and my toes leave marks on the scanner. That's not excessive Wayne. Assuming your an octopus.. NWOT...... |

Tim Hawkins![]() Handicap : 20.9 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Thu 27th Mar 2008 10:50 Personally, I think that Wayne may be a bit too in touch with his feminine side (i.e. - an old woman) for having that many shoes. I've just bought my 3rd ever pair - over the internet - a lovely pair of Footjoy AQL's. I simply went into American Golf and tried as many pairs on as I could and found a size and make that fitted well, came home and bought them for £10 less (ironically from the AG website with their matching price offer). To be honest, the salesman in AG did make a very good point in convincing me to go for a decent pair. A round of golf can be between a 4 to 6 mile hike (or more on a particularly bad day), do that once or twice a week and you rack up the miles. The only other footwear that I do that sort of mileage in are my walking boots (3-4 miles a day) and I get through two pairs a year so didn't begrudge paying £50 for the Footjoys. |

Stuart Govan![]() Handicap : 14.4 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Thu 27th Mar 2008 10:54 I'm looking for shoes as well, since my hi-tecs have developed a big smile at the front. I like a really soft, spongy fit. The Nike SP-5's sounds comfy. Any other recommendations? |
Wayne Santorini![]() Handicap : 13.9 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Thu 27th Mar 2008 11:14 Try the Bite Range Stuart, gel inserts and insoles to suit. Don't buy them off the web without having tried them though. |

Dave Knatt![]() Handicap : 28 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Thu 27th Mar 2008 13:00 Anyone remember "Billy's Boots"? When I bought my golf clubs (off ebay £8!) in one of the bag pockets was a pair of dusty old golf shoes! Size 8 - fit like a glove! It must be fate. |
Tim Hawkins![]() Handicap : 20.9 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Thu 27th Mar 2008 14:22 And all you had to do was to ampitate three toes to make them fit! Not of Scottish decent perhaps? |

Danny Brant![]() Handicap : 18.9 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Thu 27th Mar 2008 23:23 I would put more importance on shoes. Callway Chevs
Very comfy. On last years NvsS I left them at home, so I rushed to a local golf shop, and bought some stuburt golf shoes for £30 and they're really good. When I come to update my Callaways, I'll take look at a dearer stuburt. |
Matt Hargraves![]() Handicap : 24 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Fri 28th Mar 2008 08:38 i designed some mint ones at footjoy with my mane on the heals, £120 quid though so didnt order them lol.

Pat Fitzsimons![]() Handicap : 19.9 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Fri 28th Mar 2008 20:34 Stuburt Golf shoes for me, cracking shoe very comfy and very dry, I also have a pair of Nike track shoe type for the summer again very comfy, prior to that I made the mistake of buying a pair of slazenger shoes, they killed me ![]() |
Natita Philips![]() Handicap : 36 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 21st Apr 2008 12:02 Hi, this is my first post as I have only just joined. Is this a men-only club? as I started reading the post about shoes and came across the video! I will need quite a lot of convincing to stay a member as the few posts that I have read seem quite petty, one member was looking for an argument as he was bored! My whole family play golf including my daughter and myself and love the fun and enjoyment it brings especially as we can do something all together. Men take it too seriously and seem to be quite competitive at heart, don't get me wrong, my daughter is very competitive and because of that and her talent of course she has joined a club to participate in the competitions. Just my thoughts, I don't mean to offend anyone. Happy golfing! Natita |

Chris Perry![]() Handicap : 21.7 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 21st Apr 2008 12:39 Welcome aboard Natita. Whilst this isn't a men only club, there isn't a high female contingent which you are more than welcome to bolster. It might help keep some of these reprobates in order!!! You may have misunderstood the "I'm bored, fancy an argument" post. There is a lot of very friendly banter flying around on here and often the same bunch of posters day in day out trying to pass a boring working day. I suppose it's just us men letting the little boy back out with the safety net of keyboard to protect us. Can't remember who started that thread (was it that geek Dave Knatt?) but I hope they're ashamed of themselves now. On the subject of shoes, I replaced mine at Christmas for the second time as I had the same smiley face that Stu Govan's did. I would recommend that you buy shoes where there is no lip at the front and the sole rolls up the toe, similar to the Callaway And as for Wayne Santorini-Marcos, you frightened the paparattzi will take a photo of you wearing the same shoes two days running? |
Jonny P![]() Handicap : 11.5 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 21st Apr 2008 12:49 On one hand you say men take golf too seriously - but on the other you say you need convincing to stay because there are some light-hearted forum topics (I think you used the term petty).

Wayne Santorini![]() Handicap : 13.9 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 21st Apr 2008 13:29 I work my colour coordination around my shoes, therefore wouldn't wear a colour that meant I'd have to wear the same shoes 2 days running............Mr Perry!!! ![]() |
David Ley![]() Handicap : 7.2 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Mon 21st Apr 2008 22:53 I see what you mean Mr Marshall she does have a great pair of shoes!!!! |
Steven Watmore![]() Handicap : 12.5 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Tue 22nd Apr 2008 16:51 I have to say until recently i wasn't really taking enough notice of my need for new shoes. i just thought having tired feet was ok at the end of a round. I bought some Stuburt Hidro Pro for £40 (are at American golf for £32) and what a difference. comfortable, supportive Dry feet no aches and pains. Get new shoes will knock shots off your scores especiall last few holes. HITEC are very good if you have wide feet. |
Adam Mckeown![]() Handicap : 28 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Tue 27th May 2008 20:33 I'v got quite big feet - (12 -13!) and thought I would have a nightmare getting golf shoes just as I do for any other type of shoe...Adidas torsions, £50 are amazingly comfortable, didn't even get blisters the first time I wore them, which was straight on to a course!...then some feck nicked them and I can't get my size anymore! Damn! |
Dave Doncaster![]() Handicap : 25 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Wed 28th May 2008 12:48 All good things start from the ground upwards. As your stance is crutial for any shot you play, you need to have the balance. Therefore, to me, shoes are a very important part of your kit. I have always bought Footjoys and until a time they become uncomfortable, I will continue to do so. Used to have adidas but they split. You get what you pay for in golf shoes. Pay the money and enjoy your golf |
Chris Hooley![]() Handicap : 25.6 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Thu 29th May 2008 11:27 I consider golf shoes to be a crucial piece of equipment. Theres nothing worse than an uncomfortable, non-waterproof pair of shows when playing. I recently upgraded tot he Footjoy DryJoy Pods and they are an excellent pair of shoes!! |
Mas Tiff![]() Handicap : 23.6 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Thu 29th May 2008 14:10 I had a pair of Hi-Tecs as my first shoe and were very happy with them until they started to leak but fair does they were O.K for the money. I'm not suggesting expensive 'designer footwear ' is needed but one of the things you do in a game of golf is walk a lot ( unless in a buggy) not to mention building up torsion in your body then releasing it anchored to the ground by two shoes so a reasonable pair of shoes does seem a no brainer TBH :P I have now bought a pair of Foot Joy AQL ( aqualite ? ) and its only since having them that I notice that my dad has them and two of my regular platying partners have them, they seem very popular. These are superbly comfortable for me ( I need a wide fitting) and well waterproof. They seem great value at 59 pounds or less and I would highly recommend them. Cheers Mas

Mike Foster![]() Handicap : 12.3 Location : ![]() Posts : | Reply : Thu 29th May 2008 14:45 Firstly, Natita, welcome on board, I hope you stay with us, the more women in this club the better! I have been wearing Footjoy shoes for over 20 years now (not the same pair) and find them extremely comfortable, not once have I had a blister in any of the pairs. I tried a set of Etonics once but quickly went back to Footjoy as bleeding feet don't make good golf. I agree that your shoes are an important part of your game, without a comfortable and firm base you'll never play well. Wayne, 5 pairs is excessive! Cheers, Mike |
