Just out of curiosity I seconded my wifes pedometer to see how close to the recommended 10,000 steps a day I got.  I walk the dog miles in the morning and evening so knew that that I would probably crack that mark, which it did, but only just.  However, I've just worn it for two rounds at Trent Lock, for those of you who don't know it is a farily short, flat course, official yardage off the yellows is 5510, tad over 5km from tee to green.  The actual distance I walked for the first round (scored 101) was 12.7km (7.8 miles), and the second (score 90) was 11.5km (7.1 miles), about 13600 and 12300 steps respectively.  Probably be shorter if I hadn't taken the scenic route on most holes (see FIR stats for proof), but not a lot even if I'd parred the whole course.

Golf should be on the NHS really, it's good for you.

Agreed.

I am told that owning a dog halves your chance of having a heart attack.  Having a dog and playing golf must give you a fighting chance of getting to 100 even if it costs you a fortune in shoe leather.

How do you have any time to do anything else?

That's why I smoke and drink a lot, don't want to live that long.  Besides, it's not the shoe leather that's expensive, it's the golf balls!

And the worse you are at golf, the fitter you'll become. I might just stick to being rubbish.
