OK - so it's uglier than John Daly and Eammon Darcy's illicit love child, but when it goes this good - who needs good looks!
Out of curiosity I picked up the sumo2 in a demo at our local driving range. First time you hit it, make sure small children, animals and anyone with a nervous disposition has been safely shut away in a nice dark room with some soothing music - (Enya might be good, or something by the cranberries) - because when you hit that ball for the first time, the only thing that could possibly dull your unbridled excitement at just how far and straight it went is the trickle of blood dripping out of your ears.
2 cotton wool balls, a stiff drink and £269 later and I was the proud owner of mans first attempts to put a golf ball on the moon.
I happily spent a couple of days frightening Grannies at the range, then took it onto the course for the first time this weekend, and it delivered yet again. Huge high trajectory, but it just keeps on trucking up there into the sky. Only reservation is that into a head wind, it might balloon up on you a bit, but even then it was still landing a good 15-20 yards further than my playing partner, and he's a bit of a beast (but a shocking short game).
I had worried that despite hitting it further, it might just be further into the same Out of Bounds field I could hit quite comfortably with my £60 argos purchase from 3 years ago - but everything was straight as an arrow. In summary then - Would I recommend it?...Definately! Should you buy one?...Probably! Will your hearing ever be the same again?...eh?
