Stapleford Park Golf Course
Situated in a peaceful setting offering ever-changing views of Stapleford's stately home, this is classic English countryside golf at its best. The course weaves its way around the heart of the parkland in two extended loops. Woods, ponds and streams all play their part, however the meandering River Eye adds the greatest strategic interest, coming into play on four of the holes. The course also features a number of Scottish-style rivet-faced bunkers, which are positioned to play a big influence on the golfer's shot selection. The 2002 Ryder Cup winning captain Sam Torrance was very impressed with the course saying, "I love to play Donald Steel courses and believe Stapleford to be one of England's greatest jewels".

What can I say about Stapleford Park - played it twice now and both times it has been blowing a gale (the last time was the tail of the US hurricane and gale didn't do it justice). The course was in great nick both times and the holes were all tests especially in the wind, even those down wind!
Only really let's itself down in that there is no real club shop or any typical club house but the small bar is good afterwards even if you have to buy drinks and snacks for the course from a vending machine. The Course

As you step on the first tee you think "I hope this get's better", the course takes 3-4 holes to get going but once it does it offers a real challenge and you have to think about every shot on holes 5 through to 11.
Halfway horse box was very disappointing as the water to make your own hot drinks was cold!!
The back nine starts with what appears a gentle par four but second shot is key as lots of water around the green, 11 demands accuracy, you get a breather on 12 but then 13th tee shot is amazingly tight!!! 14 is a short par 3 and then a breather again for 15 and 16, 17 adds a bit of accuracy again before 18 is a great finishing hole.
All in all a fair test, could be made very tough if the rough was allowed to grow as it is very open and you can get away with some bad shots, but the greens are great and offer lots of movement.
Clubhouse is very impressive, but bar not open in the week and no pro shop to talk of at all.
Will return in the future but wouldn't want to pay anymore than using a 2for1.The Course

Great understated course almost in the middle of nowhere!
Set in the grounds of Stapleford Park the course is fairly new but already host to the Seniors Tour and an absolute hidden gem. When we played we were shocked at how quiet it was with no sound of traffic or anything else which is generally hard to find with English courses.
Some pretty tough greens but in superb condition and lots of well placed rough (tough wispy stuff), oob and water.
Kind of inland linksy but a treat to play. They accept 2 for 1s so great way to get the cost down when the course is less busy. The Course

a very good course that is well maintained with superb greens and not very busy. quite open so forgiving in most places, although good use of Out of Bounds and water on some holes. You have to be accurate because the rough is long and wispy, but a great inland course with a links feel in places.
Recommend you play it if you get a chance.
Clubhouse is high quality but more hotel than golf club.
food bar very sparce mid-week.The Course

We played at tea time on a Monday evening in July and there was no-one on the course. The place has real potential, but it has no heart or soul. The course is flat and uninspiring and uses the rough to keep it tight, in the absence of any natural features. There is water on the course, but, in my opinion, it has not been used effectively, for example, there is a big lake right in the centre of the course and it is not brought into play once, which is a real shame.
And as for the clubhouse. no pro shop to speak of and whilst it has alll the mod cons it does not seem to cater for the golfer.
Over all, not made with the golfer in mind. The Course

If you like long golf courses with good greens, you will enjoy this course. The wind can blow here as well and it is a very enjoyable round of golf. They do however seem to allow all sorts of ability on the course. We saw people at the range who were struglling to get the ball in the air. We saw them later on the course playing as a 6 ball! Glad we were in front of them.

Greens undulating but not too quick. Having spoken to the head pro they never cut them short! A must play, long and testing with a number of risk and reward holes.

What can i say... Superb; springs to mind!!
Beautiful setting, great greens, tough and tricky fairways, perfect tee boxes, a real test of golf... all you'd expect from a Donald Steele designed course!
In my opinion; probably one of the best courses i've played in the midlands this year?!
With around only 200 members it's like playing Millionaires golf! The only down side is, the food and drink remind you its like millionaires golf! £12 for a bacon & cheese burger and they try to seat you as if you were in a restuarant... No need, its a Golf club house!!
That aside, it really is a must play course. They've just started excepting buggies (they look like 2nd hand buggies tho... strange that considering the whole set-up) on to the course and at 6465 with some distances from green to tee boxes one is a must, specially when your there on a day ticket (which are £40ea with a 2-4-1!)
Check out the free balls on their practise area, very American! The Course
