What the club says: Laggan Bay, Islay is a majestic location, but real golfers are more interested in the golf course than anything else. This golf course will test all aspects of your game. Although the yardage is not long by modern standards, holes vary in length according to the strength and direction of the wind. You will need to avoid the rough, which can be penal in the summer.

Played at end of March during the cold dry spell when there was little new growth but the greens were very fast and true. Most holes are hidden behind big dunes with uneven ground beyond so it is very hard to judge direction and distance. It felt as much luck as good shot-making to get a result on a hole. Scenery and surrounds are fabulous, perhaps why this course is on various top 100 lists, or is it history? Unfortunately, at the moment, there are no facilities on site (not even a toilet after 3:30 when the sole attendant goes home for the day) while the new owners get ready to undertake redevelopment. The course itself does seem to be well maintained however.

The hotel is under alteration and repair, but this does not detract from and excellent golf course. The greens are superb and the course has the feel of history. A must play.
