Fancourt Hotel & Country Club

Fancourt Hotel & Country ClubSince opening in the early 90's with just 27 Gary Player-designed holes, Fancourt’s Outeniqua and Montagu golf courses have matured and developed into two of the finest 18-hole parkland layouts in the country. A round on either is a special experience, sculpted and finished as they are, with rare attention to detail and designed with the coastal George winds in mind. The Links at Fancourt was added in 2000, an awe-inspiring example of magnificent design and golf-course construction, about which designer Gary Player says: “Links golf is how the game originated and at The Links we take golfers back to the roots of golf – and they can play a ‘British Open’ all of their own!” Lastly, Bramble Hill was added, a course that is distinctly Fancourt, yet has a friendly character all of its own. It is a course that can be tackled by beginner and seasoned campaigner alike, without the intimidation and pressure so often associated with celebrated championship courses.

Golf course review of Fancourt Hotel & Country Club

What a place.... 4 courses. 2 on site and 1 public course next door.
The Montague and Etanique(spelt that wrong), both lovely and difficult. Both require you to use caddies, which is loads of fun because some of the characters are priceless.
The public course is great, leaving most memebrs courses here, in its dust.
But the jewel in Fancourts crown is Fancourt Links. Host to several South African Opens, it is a short drive from the resort, and God, what a place. Millionaires golf at its best, empty fairways, fabulous air conditioned clubhouse, cheap food and drink and service to die for. The course is daunting, bunkers that can give you nose bleeds, greens that make your putter tremble and drives that seem absolutly impossible. The caddies take bets on their players all the way round,(though they claim they don't).
We sat in the bar after the round, casually chatting to JOHN BLAND!!!! and realised that this place is heaven on earth.
I cannot praise the place enough. it was brilliant.
