What the club says: The course at Vila Sol consists of 27 holes. The first 9 holes are known as 'Prime', the second 9 'Challenge' and the third 9 'Prestige'. The front 9 has been known to be called "the most difficult start on the Algarve". The first 9 holes see long and narrow fairways offering very challenging golf, with the back nine offering hilly and more difficult greens.

Lovely golf course
I play here quite regularly and continue to find the narrowness of the fairways a real challenge but one that one takes for granted. The reception, the grounds staff, and all else is first class.Reviewer Rating

Do not Miss this course
If you are in Vilamoura do not miss this course, it is great. Tree lined sloping fairways where you cannot just "Biff" the ball and hope for the best. The greens are varied (not in speed) and there are water and bunker obstacles which have to be negotiated. Playing this is a must.(Round played: Sep 2019 - Score: 91 Handicap: 17.1)

Outstanding
Vila Sol is the oldest of the Pestana course's and in my opinion the best. Wonderful tree lined fairways, but not too tight, with holes where you have to pick your spot not just blast towards. A good test of golf with some wonderful holes protected by sand and water.(Round played: Sep 2019 - Score: 88 Handicap: 16.9)

What a lovely golf course
Really enjoyed Vila Sol. The course was in very good condition and the greens quick but true. We played the 10th & 19th courses, both of which we?d love to play again.We had an early afternoon tee time but, when we got to the clubhouse for lunch, it was absolute mayhem with the waitresses running round trying to keep everybody happy. Not helped by some very rude golfers but it did seem that they could have done with more staff.

We played 18-27 & 1-9. 18-27 appears the poorest part of the course being the least mature. The fairways are not the best and there are some v ordinary holes on this 9. 1-9 on the other had is excellent with some stunning scenery and elevated tee shots. Wouldn\'t play again unless guaranteed to play 1-18. Not great value for money at c100 euros a round but then again not much value to be had in the Vilamoura area. At least a few years back STG was strong, thanks a lot Brexit.

Very busy
Enjoyable round on fairly challenging course. Having the three 9s is very helpful in trying to get everyone out on the course, but then can cause bottlenecks at the turn and slow up a reasonably well paced round. Fairways and greens in good order. Easy enough to read the greens, but some are very large with the odd 3 putt creeping into the round to spoil a good card. Paired up with others and they were delightful company.(Round played: Sep 2018 - Score: 97 Handicap: 17.3)

Visually very attractive course with some lovely testing par 3's and a few signature par 5's. Green conditions very variably and disappointing to see so many unprepared pitch marks from the holiday golfers the frequent the venue. Very welcoming chap in the pro shop for this round but played two days later and service was far 'colder'. Highlight was birdieing the 18th hole under Bobby Robson's watchful gaze.

I usually get to play this course once per year when we visit Portugal, and I wish I could play it more often, as I never seem to play it well. For a change in 2018, we started at the 10th (of 27 holes), and played the 19th to 27th for the first time ever. Course was in good condition, not busy and there were no hold-ups, although this may be down to rain coming down as we got to the half-way stage (basicaly just drizzle). This meant that the Germans in front of us (who we were catching up with) walked in. From memory, tees, fairways and bunkers were in better condition than in 2017, which must be down to decent weather this year compared to last. Prices in the bar were reasonable, although the staff seemed a little disorganised. difficult to judge cost of a round, as we stayed with Pestana Group, who won the course (and 4 others) so golf was included in our package.
